Clint Mansell
Out Of Blue (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Once of the Pop Will Eat Itself parish, Clint Mansell has since amassed an impressive body of work as a film score composer. His credits include Requiem For A Dream, Pi and Black Swan, along with Charlie Brooker’s dystopian Netflix show, Black Mirror. His latest score is Out Of The Blue, a British crime flick directed by Carol Morley. On Invada.

Clint Mansell
Black Swan - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Clint Mansell’s soundtrack to the 2010 Darren Aronofsky film Black Swan is a remarkable thing, taking key elements of Tchaikovsky’s original Swan Lake and recontextualising them, just as the film does. Familiar themes rise and fall, surrounded by more modern orchestral drama. Double gatefold LP on heavyweight vinyl, out on Mondo.

Happy New Year, Colin Burstead (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Clint Mansell is now more well-known for being a composer of film scores rather than being in Pop Will Eat Itself, and perhaps that’s a good thing as he seems to be pretty good at his current career. He already has scores to Pi, Moon, High Rise and Black Mirror under his belt. His latest score is for Ben Wheatley’s new film, Happy New Year, Colin Burstead. It should match the film well as it starts off with a considered use of woodwinds and being hypnotic and ethereal in nature, before twisting into something much darker and unhinged. LP and CD on Invada.

Loving Vincent (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Clint Mansell’s (Requiem For A Dream, Black Swan, Moon, High Rise) soundtracks Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman’s unique film made up of 65,000 oil paintings. Mansell brings his emotionally devastating mastery through a dreamlike and unstable world. Features a version of Starry  Starry Night by Lianne La Havas.

High Rise

What could possibly make us more excited about Kill List and Sightseers director Ben Wheatley tackling J. G. Ballard’s nightmarish novel of concrete alienation? Well, a Clint Mansell soundtrack should do it. The prolific composer brings his synths and harsh drones to create a score that represents High Rise's themes, as well as his own utterly distinctive style.

Clint Mansell
Black Mirror: San Junipero (Original Score)

Soundtrack to Charlie Brooker’s Black Mirror episode San Junipero, from the fourth series. Scored by Clint Mansell whose notable work includes Moon, High-Rise, as well as a lot for Darren Aronofsky (Requiem For A Dream, The Fountain, Pi). Here he plays with the post 80s nostalgia of the film, heavily mixing synths with orchestral arrangements with a dark underbelly.
