Toro Y Moi
Outer Peace

Toro Y Moi's prolific Chaz Bear moved for awhile to the wilds of Portland to make his previous album Boo Boo. Whilst there he got to thinking about how technology ruins our day to day lives and the constant instant gratification we experience. i hope this leads to a Toro Y Moi album that we can enjoy as much as his earlier albums as Chaz himself could possibly do with a step away from the computer to re-discover some form.

Chaz Bundick Meets The Mattson 2
Star Stuff

Hang on, this back story is so complicated I lost my way at a point way before the record actually got made. Anyway by way of a lost drum stool, a dog and some coffee Chaz Bundick (Toro Y Moi) etc hooked up with psychedelic groove guys Mattson 2 for an album of exploratory pop and psych-tinged jazz moves which on the tune I'm listening to sounds like the Zombies as played by Shuggie Otis. This could be really good.

Toro Y Moi
Boo Boo

It really is about time Toro Y Moi made a good record. This one comes after a period of self reflection presumably after he realised how bad his previous record What For? was. Taking influence from artists ranging from Gigi Masin to Frank Ocean, initial impressions seem to be more R&B influenced with the dreaded autotune on show. You never show. If he ever does anything as good as Underneath the Pines again I will prepare my hat and eat it.

Toro Y Moi
Live From Trona

A live album, done a little differently. Recorded in the middle of the Californian desert, with the Trona Pinnacles as backdrop and no-one there, it’s probably the perfect setting for laid back, full band live versions of his biggest tracks from multiple albums. Also include one new track featuring The Mattson 2.

Toro Y Moi
What For?

With a background in punk bands, South Carolinian producer/ singer songwriter Chaz Bundick began making bedroom music under the name Toro Y Moi in 2001 and went on to pioneer the sludgy electronic sound that pre-empted chillwave. ‘What For?’ was recorded during an intermission from working on a record for his dance project Les Sins, and is a new direction for this musical adventurer, exploring lose themes of love and nature in a way that is intentionally vague and beautiful.
