The Fresh & Onlys
Wolf Lie Down

The latest chapter in the ongoing sound world of the Fresh and Only's took them three years to complete but continues the anything goes art punk/ technicolour garage pop of their previous five full length releases. The band is nothing if not multi faceted and here take you on a journey through jangle pop, desert rock and primiti...view item »

The Fresh & Onlys
Impending Doom / Troubling Vision

Its a big ask coming in and being told I'm reviewing the single of the week. What if I don't like it? i'll have to lie like everyone else in the music industry. Luckily there are no such worries with this fabulous single. Its one of those tunes that drifts along seemingly without a verse or a chorus yet is extremely tuneful and has 'instant class...view item »

Tim Cohen
Luck Man

Tim Cohen, who you might know from The Fresh & Only’s or from Magic Trick, strikes out with a solo record. Luck Man is filled with songs that are apparently Tim’s way of filling an existential void, meaning that we get to go nice and deep with him. Not t...view item »

The Fresh & Onlys
Early Years Anthology

A very valuable release here from The Fresh & Onlys, compiling together top-notch early material. The Early Years Anthology is bursting at the seams with Bay Area DIY garage-punk fun, and is released with the assistance of John Dwyer (Thee Oh Sees) on his very own Castle ...view item »

The Fresh & Onlys
House Of Spirits

Do they ever stop for a minute? There has been a case in the past for the Fresh and Only’s taking a fallow year out, writing some truly decent songs and waiting for the right time to strike. Here, they continue the pursuit of 80’s flavoured raincoat rock that they started edging towards on the ‘Soothsayer’ EP. Nod...view item »

The Fresh & Onlys
Soothsayer EP

Another day, another The Fresh and Onlys record. Their albums tend to start with a killer track before fizzling away to nothing. If you compiled all the opening tracks on their records then that would be some greatest hits. On the sleeve, a man with a beard is holding two babies. There is a school of thought...view item »

The Fresh & Onlys
Long Slow Dance

The ever-reliable Fresh & Onlys are back with 11 new tracks of their skewed indie pop on their new album ‘Long Slow Dance’. For those unfamiliar, this lot deal in a brand of ‘60s-influenced indie pop with the emphasi...view item »

The Fresh & Onlys
Yes Or No

Tim Cohen and his motley crew of lads return for another batch of Fresh And Onlys tunes. ‘Yes Or No’ is the first single from ‘Long Slow Dance’ - th...view item »

The Fresh & Onlys
Play It Strange

Oh my giddy aunt! the opening track here 'Summer of Love' is simply superb. A wonderful slice of everything that was brilliant about hazy, druggy late '60's pop music and The Fresh and Only's capture it all in three minutes. Reverbed guitars, Doors like organs and a fantastic melody. Brilliant just brilliant. The rest of the album attempts gamel...view item »

The Fresh & Onlys
Grey Eyed Girls

Righto, here's an album that nearly, almost fell right under the bleeding radar & is miles better than the other Woodsist album in this week. The Fresh & Onlys combine sparkling, frisky new wave that harks back to both the embryonic NZ Dunedin scene & more distinctly post punk era Liverpool! Fuzzy shambling nuggets that come in somewhere between Sw...view item »

The Fresh & Onlys
I Would Not Know The Devil

London's Sexbeat label lucks out with a 7" from San Franciscans The Fresh And Onlys. You are probably familiar with Tim Cohen's main squeeze as we've had a ton of stuff by them over the past couple of years. They ply their trade in reverb drenched indie ...view item »

The Fresh & Onlys
Secret Walls

Another day, another Fresh and Only's record. If they weren't so consistent I'd use the word 'churn' but once again this is pretty much excellent. A lot smoother than previous stuff I've heard, less of the 60's vibe and a bit more of an 80's thing going on. I guess their trajectory is not that dissimilar to that of Deerhunter who have also chipp...view item »

The Fresh & Onlys
Second One to Know

New woodsist goodness this week comes in the form of a The Fresh And Onlys 7" entitled 'Second One To Know' which sees the group refining their psyche/garage rock sound into manageable and memorable space pop gems. Elements of The Byrds, The Troggs, The Monks and early Pink Floyd collide with the result being predictably excellent. B-side 'Hat...view item »

The Fresh & Onlys
August In My Mind

This album fills the appropriate Indie rock gaps. Twee factor 10? Check."Saucy" cover. Check. Jangly guitars? Wordy cerebral vocals? Check. I'd say this release is pretty strong though, and I'm sure the prospect of catching these guys live or on record must be a tight pant-wetting prospect for hipsters all over the place. For me the ...view item »

Vanishing Cream

The following dialogue is taken from the 1954 version of the Twain classic "An Underpant wearing Yankee in King Arthur's Court ..." Ok mate, ya want the directions to Fresh and Only street?? Right then guv'na you go down lo-fi songsmithery street, take a right on Droll vocal delivery avenue, yeah? Then what you wanna do is bear right down C...view item »

The Fresh & Only's/ Dan Melchior

Another split 7", another dollar....DM & DM (Dan Melchior) offer a lo-fi cut which is faster than a Texan lynching. Their 2 songs are both parts funny and catchy. The 2nd track A Delicate Genius Backstage is really funny. It's about the artist in us all (apparently) and somehow it does strike a chord with me. All in all worth investigating...view item »
