Herbie Hancock
Inventions & Dimensions

Whilst the multi-talented Illinois-based creator Herbie Hancock made a name for himself with his jazz-focussed catalogue, 'Inventions & Dimensions' was his first release to be noticeably latin percussion-dominated. Over half a century later and this 6 track stands as a marquee release in the dexterous pioneer's back-catalogue.

Herbie Hancock
Dedication

Dedication by Herbie Hancock was recorded live in Tokyo in 1974. It is a spacious jazz/funk exploration of his exquisite keyboard skills. It was released in japan only at the time and we had to wait until 2013 to buy it on CD here. It has never been released on vinyl outside of Japan, so this special vinyl edition will be a real treat for fans.

Kimiko Kasai with Herbie Hancock
Butterfly

Reissue of a previously Japan-only LP here. Japanese singer Kimiko Kasai teamed up with a band led by Herbie Hancock in 1979 to record this collection of covers. Many of them are smooth-as-silk versions, with Kasai’s beautiful voice floating over languid soul-jazz instrumentals. Closes out with a rambunctious disco-funk version of Stevie Wonder’s ‘As’. Nicely restored and remastered by Be With Records.

Empyrean Isles

Blue Note continues to celebrate reaching the ripe old age of seventy-five with one of Herbie Hancock's lesser celebrated classics, Empyrean Isles. Originally released in 1964, the record focuses on his hard bop specialities, especially with the innovative and half-improvised "One Finger Snap".

Speak Like A Child

'Speak Like a Child' was originally released by Blue Note in 1968, and showed off multi-directional artist Herbie Hancock - who'd played jazz, funk, electronic and classical music -- in a standard jazz and hard bop mode. It also shows Hancock turning his interest to perfecting and experimenting with harmonies over chord progressions. 'Speak Like a Child' is getting a reissue as part of Blue Note's birthday reissue campaign. Happy birthday Blue Note! You're getting old.
