Oliver Coates / S P A T I A L
Decouple ][ Series

OOH-Sounds’ Decouple ][ series has already seen contributions from artists like Dale Cornish and Georgia, but their latest pairing may be the juiciest yet. Cello savant Oliver Coates handles the A-side with the four-part work ‘Path in, J Lover One, Yomi, Umbo’ while Spatial serves up post-techno abstractions on the flip. Challenging but not unwelcoming, this Decouple ][ series instalment is one to check if you’ve dug Oberman Knocks or Shapednoise in the past.

Spatial
A Music of Sound Systems

Debut full-length from Spatial. A Music of Sound Systems is a blur of dub and techno and club music, all abstracted via approaches derived from the Russian suprematism art movement and musique concréte to create a suite of ambient / industrial deconstructed electronics. Double LP on the Infrasonics label.

Spatial
Emergence #1

Spatial kicks some real energy into the label he manages, Infrasonics, with this, the first in a series of Emergence 12”s. The two tracks here feel very tightly managed, synth lines jittering around beats that sound strictly disciplined yet also full of swing. Very interesting and dynamic stuff here, and pressed to 180g white vinyl too.

Spatial
Primitives

Dubstep artist Spatial bursts from the genres seams with records of introspective afterthought and meditation, and with 'Primitives' he shows himself to be as far removed from electronic music's traditions as possible. This record is an ambitious audio-visual work with short films that are as every bit as essential as the 4/4 belters they accompany.
