Future Islands
Tomorrow / The Fountain

Way before their Letterman-induced mainstream success, Future Islands were a neat little synth pop band with a singer one part Sam Cooke, one part an excitable braying walrus. This standalone single was released on the Upset the Rhythm label and contains two more of their soulful sighs Tomorrow and the Fountain. Now because they are all dead famous and that we get a limited clear vinyl pressing of just 300.

Future Islands
Feathers & Hallways

Feathers and Hallways was another pre-success 7" on Upset the Rhythm by Baltimore synth poppers Future Islands. The London imprint were heavily involved in the band's early work and hereby issue a mint coloured re-press limited to just 300 copies saving you literally a dollar on getting a used copy on Discogs. Their romantic, soul-driven 80s synthesizer pop always has a timeless if not Christmassy quality. See what I'm saying?

Future Islands
As Long As You Are

Also known as the band with the funny dancing man, Future Islands will forever be stuck in heads because of *that* Letterman performance. This is their second album since Singles, the album off the back of the exposure. It shows the band still pursuing their retro synth pop sound but with one main alteration - they now have an actual human drummer in tow.

Future Islands
Singles

Not a Greatest Hits type collection but the first album Future Islands recorded for 4AD. After years as a much loved underground cult band, Future Islands truly crossed over not just with their more streamlined synth pop sound but with the comical antics of singer Sam Herring on their breakout performance on the Late Show with David Letterman. Expect '80s-obsessed smooth synth juxtaposed with eccentric soul-influenced barking and David Brent-like dance moves.

Future Islands
The Far Field

Remember that funny dancing man off the telly? Well he's back with a 1980s era backing band for another album of emotional synth pop. 'The Far Field' was recorded at the legendary Sunset Studios with John Congleton yet still manages to sound like it was recorded on a state of the art digi-studio in 1985.

Future Islands
On The Water

Before all the dad dancing on telly Future Islands were a neat little synth pop trio with a growling dervish of a singer. They were cool and released records on Thrill Jockey including this one from 2012. It was more of a slow burner than their previous In Evening Air and I'm alarmed to read on wikipedia that the band felt rushed and pressured by Thrill Jockey. Bet the label regrets that now that the band have achieved presumably less pressured worldwide success. Thrill Jockey do their best though to make up for it by issuing this album on LP and CD so we can all still get it if needed.
