Russell Haswell
Tongue Dancer '85

Someone let noisy troublemaker Russell Haswell into the famous EMS Elektronmusikstudion in Stockholm, where he had a play around on their marvellous collection of synthesisers. Typically searing business from Haswell here. Tongue Dancer ‘85 is a single-track, single-sided 12”, limited to 300 copies.

Russell Haswell
Respondent

Noise merchant Russell Haswell presents this new mini LP which sits right between a 12" and an LP.  Here he collaborates with Sue Tomkins (Life Without Buildings). Her distinctive voice is sure to give a unique edge to music Haswell describes as being influenced by the music he heard during his formative years.

Russell Haswell
Constitutional

Here’s a 2014 session from deranged synth-noiser and Consumer Electronics / Autechre associate Russell Haswell! Constitutional, which the liner notes tell us was recorded in one evening, is a typically Haswellian slab of beat-driven modular synth noise, and it ought to make you feel like Haswell looks on the sleeve if you listen to it loud enough. Vinyl release on Bocian.

Russell Haswell / Dungeon Acid
Split

Russell Haswell here shares wax with an artist whose name decently describes Haswell’s own sound: Dungeon Acid. The Dungeon master lays out some deep and heavy acidic dancefloor material, while Haswell goes harsh and fierce with barely-contained, theoretically-danceable noise. 12” split on iDEAL Recordings, limited to 300 copies.

As Sure As Night Follows Day

Another missive from Russell Haswell, this time in the form of a state-of-the-Haswell full-length album. The man is particularly entranced with acid and techno sounds at the moment, and that really comes out on As Sure As Night Follows Day’s 19 tracks. Banging tunes with a rough, noisy edge. On Diagonal.

Russell Haswell
CONCEPTUAL nO!se

Russel Haswell has worked in a variety of supposed genres but noise (sorry, nO!se) is certainly his first love: he's even made rave music out of it. 'CONCEPTUAL nO!se' is pretty self-explanatory, but to give you a little more information, it's a six-track LP comprised of several noise experiments: it even promises an offering of the good old noise wall -- extra harsh, for your enjoyment. Haswell's music is invigoratingly heavy, and he's performed with artists who share his interest in the pulverising, having recently performed with gruesome techno maverick Vatican Shadow. Surrender to the nO!se.

Double A

Russell Haswell recently came down to earth to shatter teeth and ruin lives with his new noisy record 'Conceptual nO!se', which was not only gleefully abrasive, but also kinda infuriating to type. Ever prolific, he returns now with 'Double A', a squelchy, more contentedly dance-oriented record consisting of two ten minute workouts. It's still intense, but a little less gruesome.

37 Minute Workout

37 Minute Workout is released mid-February on both vinyl LP and digital download formats. The vinyl comes in a high gloss, spot-UV varnished sleeve with black and white inner — designed, as always, by Guy Featherstone.

Electroacoustic Sludge Dither Transformation Smear Grind Decomposition nO!se File Exchange Mega Edit

'Electroacoustic Sludge Dither Transformation Smear Grind Decomposition nO!se File Exchange Mega Edit' is the long awaited collaboration from two of the world finest purveyors of noise, electroacoustics and top shelf audio mayhem.  A blistering 2cd collision of transformation, technique, ideas and form which resides equally in the advanced fields of electroacoustic study and the high energy freeform noise from which both practitioners sprung.

Gabor Lazar/Russell Haswell
Split

Gabor Lazar’s and Russell Haswell’s musics sit well alongside each other on this split cassette, as both are obsessively keen on wrenching messed-up sounds from their synthesiser set-ups. Lazar’s tracks are stuttering permutations of patterns, while Haswell’s tracks are typically noisy, but there is a shared intensity of sound running down the middle of this tape. Limited edition c46 on Last Foundation.

Russell Haswell
8 track EP

Russell Haswell is as direct as ever on this new release on iDEAL Recordings. An EP with 8 tracks? Yeah, call it 8 track EP and be done with it (see also the cover art). The sound is no different, blasting the listener with first-take, no-overdub noise, or ‘nO!se’, as Haswell would have us say.

Russell Haswell
Value + Bonus

Value / Bonus is a sarkily titled collection on No Fun, full to the brim of Russell Haswell’s Noise / nO!se experiments! Lots of short, sharp pieces, seemingly chucked together with little thought to cohesion (not a criticism: this in itself is an aesthetic). Recommended for the vast jump in volume between tracks one and two, sure to catch you out.
