Infiniti
Skynet

Juan Atkins put out Skynet under his Infiniti moniker twenty years ago, so seeing as the thing’s birthday was coming up Tresor have decided to reissue the LP. You know the drill with Atkins - impeccably crafted minimal techno grooves, vaguely cosmic synth work, the occasional high-NRG excursion (‘Skyway’). Terrence Dixon’s all over this record too. Lovely old job.

Model 500
Night Drive

Model 500 is of course a pseudonym for Detroit super-producer Juan Atkins. On this EP first released in 1985, Atkin lays down the foundation blocks of the Detroit electro / techno sound: this 12” includes a version of the very first Model 500 single, and it still sounds fresh 30 years later. Night Drive is re-pressed by Metroplex.

Model 500
The Chase

Model 500 is of course a pseudonym for Detroit super-producer Juan Atkins. On this EP resurrected from the beating heart of 1989 The Chase, Atkin spins out multiple mixes of the tune, inviting Derrick May to contribute two. This is 12 inches of vintage original techno from one of the actual originators, reissued by Metroplex.

Juan Atkins
Dimensions / Flash Flood

Life's Good is a new label about to bring us reissued classics from the golden age of Detroit / European Techno. Their inaugural release is this lush double-header from Juan Atkins: Dimensions / Flash Flood. Originally recorded in the early 1990s and issued on the famous "Panic In Detroit" compilation from 1992 under his M500 / Model 500 guise, "Dimensions" is a percolating, bleepy charmer now given its own side of loud-cut wax on this 12", freshly remastered by Rashad Becker.  Meanwhile on the flip, Flash Flood appears as a fresh twist on the original with acidic synth and ominously deep sub-bass.

No UFO's Remixes

Juan Atkins’ calling card to extraterrestrial life sounds as vital now as it did back in ’85, but the key building block in what is now called techno has never received a modern re-rub. That all changes as second generation Detroit hero Moodymann turns in something of a cover version of the legendary electro jam while Swiss mnml ringmaster Luciano taps up the clicky, percussive vibe that he was pushing in Ibiza ten years ago by way of a remix.

Digital Solutions

Detroit techno legend Model 500 (aka Juan Atkins) is back with Digital Solutions. This is the first record Atkins has put out under the Model 500 alias (rather than his own name) since 1999, so we might expect him to take it old-school for this release. Single CD or Double LP, released by Atkins’ own Metroplex label.

Model 500
Sonic Sunset

Sonic Sunset splits the difference between chilling ambient soundscapes and propulsive, snarling rhythms that persuade you away from the droning surface. It serves as proof that Model 500 were able to seamlessly marry these two sounds in a way no other artist could quite perfect, letting songs build and climax in a static position. It's beautiful and naturalistic in sound, but it makes the listener impatient, pining for the moment the sustained synths give way to the beats.

Model 500
The Passage

A giant in the Detroit techno scene who's been there since the early days, you'll find Juan Atkins spinning the wheels behind the Model 500 moniker. He'd been using the name since the 80s and released the three tracks that make up 'The Passage' in 1992. The tracks are colourful, full of sparkling synth and driven by lively beats. 'The Passage' is often a far cry from the dark techno getting produced today, but it's no less worthy.
