Bon Iver
Bon Iver

It's probably safe to say that you won't be seeing Justin Vernon playing For Emma, Forever Ago in its entirety in concert anytime soon as the Wisconsin based artist tends to move on drastically from every release. Indeed this self titled follow up to his now legendary debut changed his musical map completely. This time lots of musicians (including saxophone ace Colin Stetson) were brought in to flesh out his sound resulting in a completely different imprint which is either a bold step forward or a cluttered mess depending on how attached you were to his debut.

Bon Iver
i,i

Justin 'Bon Iver' Vernon is one of the artists who continues to push the art of autotune forward alongside the likes of Future and Charli XCX. He applies his craft to an incredibly earnest indie-folk that has steadily been taking over the world. i, i is likely an allusion to second album Bon Iver, Bon Iver and has more than enough heart to match that wonderful record.

Bon Iver
Blood Bank

His whingeing in a log cabin about his ex girlfriend led to initial accolades but Justin Vernon aka Bon Iver wasn't going to rest on any laurels. Extended Play Blood Bank was the first sign he was going to be up to something different in future featuring a warmth lacking in debut For Emma, Forever Ago. The fact that Kanye West sampled Woods led to unlikely collaborations and Bon Iver becoming a much more eclectic futuristic proposition on future recordings.

Big Red Machine
Big Red Machine

Ahh these minstrels will soothe my jangled nerves. Big Red Machine is a collaborative record between Bon Iver Sadboy 2.0 Justin Vernon and Aaron Dessner, songwriter and guitarist in The National. Dessner seems to be at the desk on this one, while Vernon's doubling down on his 808s And Heartbreaks-in-a-forest thing. It won’t come as a surprise for us to tell you that Big Red Machine’s self-titled debut LP is the most earnest album ever made.

Bon Iver
22, A Million

That isolated cabin in the woods feels a long way away now: Justin Vernon’s Bon Iver seem to have made new album 22, A Million in a cabin in the internet instead. Lots of auto-tune, lo-fi crunch next to high-fi shimmer, and track titles to trump any vaporwave you could throw at it. Take your pick of CD, cassette tape or vinyl editions: there is even a deluxe LP edition with a bonus 12” of extended versions. On Jagjaguwar

Bon Iver
For Emma, Forever Ago

For Emma, Forever Ago is the 2007 debut album by Bon Iver, who at the time consisted solely of Justin Vernon. After his band DeYarmond Edison split, and he’d suffered a bout of serious illness, he set off for a cabin in the woods to write and record the album. The resulting recording is now a firmly established classic and appeared at the top of many critics ‘best of’ lists at the end of 2007.
