Danger In The Past

Danger in the Past is the debut album by ex-Go-Between, Robert Forster. It is turning thirty this year and to celebrate it’s getting a remastered reissue. Forster’s band on this occasion was Mick Harvey, Hugo Race and Thomas Wydler. The album has been praised by BBC 6 Music’s Gideon Coe and music journalist Pete Paphides.

Calling From A Country Phone

I was still crying about the demise of the Go-Betweens when Robert Forster released his first two solo albums Danger in the Past and Calling From A Country Phone in the early '90s so didn't really give them due attention amongst the tears. Now perhaps is a good time to evaluate them and the second of those records now comes remastered with liner notes and a bonus 7" featuring two tracks that were hidden tracks on the initial CD run.

The Evangelist

Australia's top lip purser Robert Forster (in second place Helen Daniels) released this 2008 album on the back of the tragic passing of his Go Betweens partner in crime Grant McLennan and contains three songs written with the late songwriter. It's no eulogy to McLennan though  - just your usual Forster fayre of bright upbeat guitar pop alongside some low key weepies. Not to be missed.

Inferno

In an ideal world, Robert Forster’s band, The Go-Betweens would have sold millions of records in the eighties, such was their ability to write a nice tune. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen and The Go-Betweens music was left to be appreciated by those in the know. Robert Forster is now a writer of exquisite songs and books and father of one third of The Goon Sax. His new album, Inferno, was produced by Victor Van Vugt and it’s the first time the pair have worked together since Forster’s solo debut back in 1990. LP and CD on Tapete.

Songs To Play

Robert Forster has been a busy man in the seven years since his last solo outing, The Evangelist (2008). He has worked as a producer and a writer and overseen the compilation of G Stands For Go Between, the box set that reprises the work of his band, the legendary antipodean tunesmiths The Go Betweens. Songs To Play finds Forster in a fun and adventurous mood. It is a mix of the melodic pop and singer/songwriter tunes you’d expect with the odd experimental twist.
