The lungs + strums behind Chicago's Zelienople focuses his songwriting inward for a new LP on Miasmah. This time he focuses intently on foggy, sunken songs that make heavy use of reverbed, slow guitar jangles, dripping drum machines, his soft vocal tones and silence. A nice, airy treat for battered eardrums.

Inbetween tireless runs of self-released recordings, Matt Christensen bags his first vinyl deal since since Honeymoons last year. Coming through Belgium’s Morc Records this time, I Know What The Fight Is sees the Zelienople member in a particularly slow and calm mood. Trickling guitar, whispered electronics and Christensen’s characteristic murmured voice are the main ingredients in this heartfelt, noirish and slowcore blend of Americana and ambient.
Zelienpole are a four-piece who hail from Chicago. On Show Us The Fire, they use folk and rock as a base, layering textures lifted from jazz and ambient music, bringing each genre's subtleties to the fore and creating a sound unique to them. The music is stoic: the discontented feelings of anxiety and anger are hidden under layers of reverb and restrained by their slow tempo.
