Yo La Tengo Vinyl, CD & tapes by Yo La Tengo at Norman Records

They love us and we love them. Veterans of indie rock who’ve seen it go through thirty years of change, Yo La Tengo have changed pretty much nothing about themselves, continuing to make long, yawning records of lovely twee pop, amped-up shoegaze a...read more »

Yo La Tengo
Electr-O-Pura

For a long long time there was no such thing as a bad or even a just passable Yo La Tengo album. Everything they touched was excellent. Elecr-O-Pura nestled between two of their best albums in Painful and I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One and itself is no slouch. It ranges from 3 minute pop perfection (Tom Courtney) to gorgeous ballads (The Hour Is Late) to stunning kraut-rock workouts (Blue Line Swinger). All you need in life on one album.

Yo La Tengo
And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out

Reissue of Yo La Tengo’s ninth studio LP here courtesy of Matador. 2000’s And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out remains one of the band’s strongest performances this Century. It marked a change in Yo La Tengo's style, with many of the songs here generally slower and more contemplative than on previous releases. The dreamy haze that blankets tracks like ‘Our Way To Fall’ is almost Lynchian. Come the end of the 2000’s And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out showed up on several ‘Best Of The Decade’ lists.

Yo La Tengo
There’s A Riot Going On

I think this is as good a time as any for a new Yo La Tengo record. The world could do with a little bit of the soothing balm they put into their music. Unlike many other bands of their vintage who rely on collaboration and guest stars to ice their records, Yo La Tengo did this all themselves....and that's the way we like it.

Yo La Tengo
Fade: Deluxe Edition

Big ol’ box of Tengo here. The band’s 2013 LP Fade, a collection of poignant indie-pop in the mould of Eels and Superchunk, was rightly celebrated on release. Now Matador have bulked up Yo La Tengo’s 13th album for a re-release. The deluxe edition of Fade finds the original track-listing backed by a second disc of B-sides, rarities, remixes, live versions and covers.

Yo La Tengo
Stuff Like That There

Yo La Tengo have been making some of the best American indie music for 30 years now. Their new album, Stuff Like That There is a sort-of companion piece to their classic album Fakebook which contained re-imagined Yo La Tengo songs and selected cover versions. For this new album, the concept is the same. Also, the trio become a quartet with guitarist Dave Schramm joining Ira Kaplan, Georgia Hubley and James McNew.

Yo La Tengo
Extra Painful

'Painful' was something of an early blueprint for another of Yo La Tengo's more beloved records, 'And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out'. Beyond their sickly blue covers, both are full of mumbled vocals, twilit riffs that slide seamlessly through the night, and romantic shoegaze outbursts. 'Extra Painful' compiles this old, understated effort from one of indie rock's subtlest acts with a second disc of original and unheard material -- plus lots of photos and an endless amount of goodies.

Fade

Fade is the Yo La Tengo album which features Actual Best Cover Art of All Time showing the band cowering beneath the biggest tree you've ever seen. It was a collaboration with producer John McEntire (Tortoise) and like a lot of their albums showcases many different sides of their music from slow aching ballads to extended wig outs. Yo La Tengo have since become an institution in US indie rock and Fade is another small piece of the enormous musical puzzle they have created.

I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass

There's no-one quite like Yo La Tengo is there? On and one they go always picking at the frays at the edge of their sound pushing it in this direction and that. I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass was their eleventh full length record released in 2006. As has become their habit it contains a mixture of soft and pure ballads, guitar wig-outs, cover songs and slight explorations into jazz. We'd expect nothing else from this justly lauded Hoboken trio.
