Yello Vinyl, CD & tapes from this artist at Norman Records
Yello were formed in Switzerland in 1979 and continue the gap between Kraftwerk, Laibach, 80s pop and rave. Bonkers as they are, this leads to a multi levelled appreciation. Remix lord Andrew Weatherall takes his favourite song from their 2016 album Toy and reworks it into four distinctively diverse versions, from disco, to electro and ambient.
It’s staggering to think Yello legends Boris Blank and Carlos Peron recorded this incredible collection of unsettling synth jams in the mid 70s. Originally planned for release by The Residents, what never came to fruition at the time finally sees the light of the day now via this fantastic compilation, comfortably nestled amongst kindred spirits on Dark Entries.
Yello, the Oh Yeah-producing synth-pop pioneers, are back with a thirteenth album, having been quiet for a whole nine years. Toy is as fun and groovy as the Swiss group’s classic stuff, with darkly deadpan vocals over bouncy synths. Double LP or CD editions on Universal. The cover is yello-wy which must be some sort of coincidence.
