Woven Hand Vinyl, CD & tapes by Woven Hand at Norman Records
As you may have picked up from the title, Early Wovenhand is a collection of the first records from David Eugene Edwards’ Wovenhand project. It’s easy to forget now that seemingly every second singer-songwriter is going for that mid-period Nick Cave sound, but back in the early 2000s Wovenhand’s mixing of folk, country, post-punk and a generally Southern Gothic air was pretty innovative. This collection of newly-remastered LPs allows Edwards to show the young pretenders how it’s done.

Come burn the barn with Wovenhand and their countrified punk rock. For those not in the know, these folks were sprung from the imagination of David Eugene Edwards, who usually played in 16 Horsepower. One might argue this band had a more blistering pace and allowed Edwards to go a bit harder, with thrashing drums, flailing guitars and a hard rock vocal boom. 'Star Treatment' is a ragged, raucous record and, hey, guess what, Steve Albini's studio recorded it.

Wovenhand are one of the darkest and most intense musical entities currently operating within the American musical landscape. This eponymously titled first studio album, recorded in 2002 and has only now finally become available on vinyl. Wovenhand marks a new era in the musical career of David Eugene Edwards and is his first new work since alternative country band 16 Horsepower.
