Mount Eerie
2 remixes by Wolves In The Throne Room

As it says on the tin, these are two remixes of songs off Mount Eerie's 'Wind Poem' by Olympia's Wolves in the Throne Room. The latter took the unmixed songs and added bits and bats of synth and bass to 'Lost Wisdom'. 'Mouth of Sky' was mixed in dub stylee using Lee 'Scratch' Perry inspired techniques and was made in real time. Comes on picture disc 7".

Wolves in the Throne Room
BBC Session 2011 Anno Domini

Southern Lord drop an LP of Wolves In The Throne Room live cuts. For their 2011 BBC Session the Washington group surprised everyone by coming through with wildly different interpretations of two tracks from their Celestial Lineage LP (also 2011). Rather than performing ‘Prayer Of Transformation’ and ‘Thuja Magus Imperium’ as thick-as-tar black metal numbers that also function as paeans to humankind’s fatal failings, for this session the tracks are transformed into thick-as-tar black metal numbers that also function as paeans to humankind’s fatal failings … on ice!

Wolves in the Throne Room
Black Cascade

Third LP from the mighty Wolves In The Throne Room here. The Canadian group turn black metal into a thick mist on Black Cascade. Sure, there are moments of great power and force here - ‘Ex Cathedra’ is a particularly unrelenting sprawl - but the way that the band blend the hard stuff with dense fogs of reverb and sky-scraping ambiences is just majestic. An excellent album.

Wolves in the Throne Room
Celestite

From the band themselves: “To make Celestite we delved into the subterranean sonics that are buried in the mix of Celestial Lineage. We isolated them, processed them and took this unearthed soundscape as our starting point. Upon this base we recorded an entirely new album. Some melodies from Celestial Lineage are recognizable, but these familiar sounds appear as ghosts, barely tethered to the original compositions. This new album is an unorthodox foray; a fully instrumental, experimental companion record to Celestial Lineage. We left some work undone with Celestial Lineage. The recording of that album in the Winter of 2011 was a monumental project fo rus personally, and the creative fire from those recording sessions was still burning. This recording process was an opportunity to journey into our own inner universe to complete that which needed to be completed.” Celestite is the inaugural release on Wolves in the Throne Room’s new label, Artemisia Records.

Wolves in the Throne Room
Celestial Lineage

A modern classic of American dark-nature black metal: it’s Wolves In The Throne Room’s 2011 album Celestial Lineage! This is a particularly epic one, with Jessika Kenney contributing beautiful tender vocals to several sparse quasi-ambient passages that break up the brothers Weaver’s ecstatic dark ritualism. Southern Lord reissue.

Two Hunters

Wolves In The Throne Room’s second LP Two Hunters is the first thing they released on Southern Lord (Sunn O))), Sleep). The band’s union with the metal mega-label would go on to yield two more full-lengths and a couple of EPs, and every bit of it is brilliant. If you’re unfamiliar with the Wolves In The Throne Room sound then Two Hunters is as good a place to start as any. Monolithic, sky-shaking black/doom metal that will make everything else you listen to sound puny.

Wolves in the Throne Room
Diadem of 12 Stars

The band that launched hipster black metal get a reissue of their 2006 classic Diadem of 12 Stars, a record that treated the genre as ambient rumination in what is usually a place for sonic severity. Wolves In The Throne Room are one of black metal's biggest contemporary names and this record is perhaps its most fitting modern masterpiece: a record recorded in a "windowless, black room". But of course.
