TOY
Songs Of Consumption

English psychedelic/shoegaze/krautrock act Toy are coming up to a decade in their existence, and, following the critical acclaim that greeted their fourth album Happy In The Hollow back in January this year, they turn to the songs that inspired them for this eight-track covers album, Songs of Consumption. It includes tracks from diverse artists such as The Troggs, Serge & Charlotte Gainsbourg and Nico. They got the idea from the 7” bonus single of covers that accompanied the Dinked and Rough Trade versions of Happy In The Hollow, and three of those are included here.

TOY
Happy In The Hollow

Here come TOY with their fourth album but their first for the Tough Love label. Like previous work it touches on the cornerstones of post-punk, kraut-rock, electronica and folk but this time comes with a directness perhaps missing from earlier work. Recorded both at their home studios and with ace producer Dan Carey, this propulsive record could be their most realised yet.

Proper Ornaments
Foxhole

One of them is in Ultimate Painting and Veronica Falls, another is in Toy and Pink Flames. Thus have we Foxhole, a record that abounds in sweet harmonies, clever songwriting and jangles galore that was put together between bouts of work with their other projects. Lead track ‘Memories’ is Lennon-pastiche par excellence. Vinyl and CD from perennially-good Tough Love (Let’s Wrestle, Cymbals Eat Guitars etc.).

TOY
The Willo / Energy

Two new songs from Toy, working in two fairly different styles. It's a double A-side release, so each track deserves equal prominence. ‘The Willo’ is a remarkably spaced-out seven minute number, with organ and acoustic guitar prominent. While ‘Energy’ is a big crunching rocker: yeah! 12” on Tough Love.

TOY
Clear Shot

They are a strange lot Toy, they never completely blow you away but they are very pleasant to listen to. This is their third album and they recorded it themselves then sent it over to the states for a bit of gloss. It carries on the moody krauty template from previous albums and lead track 'Fast Silver' has some rather moody atmospheres which certainly bode well.

TOY and Jane Weaver / H Hawkline
Fell From The Sun / It's A Drag

Not much info on this but it looks like London psych rockers Toy have collab'd with folky, krauty everywhere girl Jane Weaver on one side whilst Welsh Gruff Rhys mini-me H.Hawkline takes up the B side. Heavenly are releasing some great records at the moment so this will be a highly sought after one to add to your collection.
