This collaboration between minimalist composer and violinist Tony Conrad and krautrock collective Faust was first released in 1972 and, if you hadn’t already guessed from the people involved, the main focus of Outside The Dream Syndicate is drones. There’s harsh drones, beautiful drones, minimal drones, rock ‘n roll drones and percussive drones and they don’t really sound like anything else.
Ten Years Alive On The Infinite Plain began with image before sound. Tony Conrad premiered this record way back in 1972 at The Kitchen in New York, and it was seen as a masterpiece of strings and drones that piled up together to create two hours of solid and genuine music. Available on Vinyl double LP and CD.
Constellation Records (Tindersticks, Godspeed You! Black Emperor) with something of a lucky dip here. Musique Fragile Vol. 02 brings together a pretty disparate collection of artists. Included is a self-titled collaborative record from experimental rockers Hangedup and experimental … man Tony Conrad, a set of super-leftfield hip-hop beats from Kanada 70 (think Dabrye but, like, waaaaay weirder), and Affaires étrangères, which is an Arabesque post-rock opus from Pacha. It’s all over the place, but somehow Musique Fragile Vol. 02 just works.
