Tommy Guerrero
Soul Food Taqueria

Genre-hopping musician and skateboarding legend Tommy Guerrero’s 2003 release Soul Food Taqueria returns as a 2LP reissue from Be With Records. The music dabbles in groovy, guitar-led soul-funk, often with a touch of melancholy. It’s warmly produced and as effectively as relaxed as was Tommy’s skating.

Tommy Guerrero
From The Soil To The Soul

Although released in 2006 on CD by Quannum Records, skateboarder-turned-musician Tommy Guerrero’s seminal fourth album is released on vinyl for the first time. From The Soil To The Soul may turn its hand to various genres throughout, but it remains precise and well-executed. Original artwork by graffiti artist Twist revamped by Guerrero, now on bright red.

Dub Tunes

Blimey, Ed Banger are still going. While this will certainly be a surprise to anyone who thought that the French label had gone gentle into that good night after its late-2000s heyday, the real surprise here is actually that the new stuff they’re putting out is … really good. Dub Tunes comes from skateboarder-turned-producer Tommy Guerrero, and it’s a record that very much delivers on its title. Five Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry-indebted originals are augmented by a trio of digi-dub flips from Trevor Jackson.

Tommy Guerrero
A Little Bit Of Somethin'

What a beautiful little release. The album art pretty much sums up the sound on the LP, so as you can imagine, the tracks are mellow and guitar-y. A Little Bit Of Somethin' by Tommy Guerrero has been reissued on vinyl LP on Be With Records and would be a nice addition to the chilled out part of your record collection.

Tommy Guerrero
Perpetual

Tommy Guerro has had an impressively varied career up to this point. He’s been a pro-skater, a shoe / jeans designer, an actor, an art director… Also a musician. With Perpetual he felt like embracing the limitations of an old tape machine, Nebraska-style, which lends these 16 songs an extra atmosphere. On Grand Palais / Modulor.

Tommy Guerrero
No Mans Land

Described as a musician, designer, artist and skateboarder from San Francisco, I immediately find Tommy Guerrero annoying. He’s just bound to be one of those too-cool-for-school kids isn’t he? Probably some kind of trendy hairstyle and undoubtedly with that most annoying of traits; an upbeat enthusiasm for everything. Urgh. His music on No Mans Land is more mature than my judgement of him however, with some solid beats and some good grooves, it’s edging into some very nice hip-hop beats indeed.
