Thurston Moore
Pollination / Leave Me Alone

Having made a name for himself in NYC rock outfit Sonic Youth, Thurston Moore returns under his solo guise with this enthralling cover of New Order's 'Pollination / Leave Me Alone'. Recorded in Salford ('the only place he would dare to cover a New Order song') Moore here pays homage to his idols with a fresh take on the track.

Thurston Moore
Trees Outside The Academy (Remastered)

Trees Outside the Academy was Sonic Youth founder Thurston Moore’s second solo album. It was originally released in 2007. His only previous solo album, Psychic Hearts, came 13 years earlier. The songs on this album are mainly based on acoustic guitar, backed by fellow Sonic Youth member Steve Shelley on drums and Samara Lubelski, who has played with MV/EE, on violin.

Thurston Moore
By The Fire

Featuring Debbie Googe of My Bloody Valentine on bass and backing vocals and his erstwhile Sonic Youth bandmate Steve Shelley doing some of the drum parts, By The Fire is alternative rock icon Thurston Moore’s seventh solo album. Completed in the short gap between his band’s tour of Europe and the coronavirus lockdown, it’s one of his most focussed solo efforts yet.

Klangfarbenmelodie.. And The Colorist Strikes Primitiv

Klangfarbenmelodie….And The Colourist Strikes Primitiv by Thurston Moore was originally released in the same year as his Psychic Hearts album. In the Sonic Youth timeline that’s in between Washing Machine and A Thousand Leaves. It’s also in a time before people read Kim Gordon’s Biography…..Anyway, what we have here is a reissue, on vinyl for the first time, of Thurston Moore's vicious noise-rock set recorded with free jazz drummer Tom Surgal. It was originally released by Corpus Hermeticum, a label owned by Bruce Russell from The Dead C. Russell edited the recording for this release and contributes new liner notes. Heavyweight white vinyl on Glass Modern.

Parallelogram A La Carte

Some serious talents of wild noisy improv are gathered together on this split album: on the A-side, the drums and feedback-guitar duo of Thurston Moore and John Moloney, and on the B-side, the power trio of Bill Orcutt, Alan Bishop and Chris Corsano! Ferocious performances from all sides. LP on Three Lobed Recordings.

Thurston Moore
Rock n Roll Consciousness

Thurston Moore has kept himself very busy since Sonic Youth disbanded in 2011, working with numerous small projects, playing with countless collaborators and running Ecstatic Peace. Rock n Roll Consciousness is his first properly distributed full length for a while, and flutters between avant-garde, no-wave and poetic pop. A warm and engrossing oddity.

The Thing with Thurston Moore
Live

The thing with Thurston Moore is that he's fairly tall. The Thing with Thurston Moore is a collaboration between the lanky, non-ageing Sonic Youth controller and the madcap Scandinavian free-jazz monsters. Whilst on tour they popped into Thurston's local Cafe Oto and invited the mopheaded guitar mangler on stage to make a right old racket.

Thurston Moore
The Best Day

What's been going on with Thurston Moore? Aside from release a new cassette of experimental space rock, it looks like he got a pet dog. 'The Best Day' is the Sonic Youth frontman's first solo record since he released 'Demolished Thoughts' in 2010, a year after Sonic Youth distributed their final document, 'The Eternal'. The record shows off Moore's dedication to ferocious no wave guitars but also flinches for moments of acoustic balladry. Aside from the dog, there are some accomplished indie rock musicians backing Moore on this one -- Steve Shelley, of course, as well as Deb Googe of MBV and James Sedwards of Nought.

Thurston Moore
Demolished Thoughts

"I'm feeling cursed and sore, like, I'm Thurston Moore-like" as Half Man Half Biscuit famously sung on their album 'Trouble Over Bridgwater'. Anyway, 'Demolished Thoughts' is the former Sonic Youth member's third solo studio album which saw him drop the distortion and hypnotic tremolos in favour of acoustic-led indie folk. Beck produced it, and the title derives its name from a legendary hardcore punk split between Faith and Void.

Sonic Youth
A Thousand Leaves

One of the more experimental records from later on Sonic Youth, there's still plenty of tunes to be had at. It even topped The Wire's records of the year back in 1998! 'A Thousand Leaves' is full of psychedelic suites, dissonant riffing, feedback collages and the ultra-cool delivery of three of their four members. Includes the well-known piece 'Sunday'.

Confusion is Sex

Your favourite uncle of noise rock, ok, maybe more like wisen parents, Sonic Youth’s 1983 album Confusion Is Sex is a dark backwards step into their more primitive state. Noisy, disjointed and clanky as hell. Guitars being destroyed for your listening pleasure. Repressed by Goofin’, good work guys. Yes. Just Yes.

Sonic Youth
The Eternal

From the crunch and screech of opening number ‘Sacred Trickster’ you know that Sonic Youth are not messing around on ‘The Eternal’. Their fifteenth and final LP, this 2009 set sees the more considered sound of 2006’s ‘Rather Ripped’ exchanged for some of the meatiest riffage that Sonic Youth delivered at any point in their career (well, their later career at least). Grinding yet melodic, ‘The Eternal’ is a parting throwdown to all the young pretenders who had come out in the band’s wake.

Thurston Moore & Tom Surgal
Not Me

Erstwhile guitar-noise practitioner and former Sonic Youth guy Thurston Moore teams up with Tom Surgal and his drum kit for this 1996 free-improv session. The two duck and weave around each other, generating sizzling electro-crackle atmospheres for all the family. This reissue of Not Me comes with new liner notes in a replica of the original LP sleeve, and is limited to 500 copies. On Fourth Dimension.
