The Wedding Present
George Best

The ever-prolific pioneers of UK indie, The Wedding Present, are embarking on an extensive reissue campaign, releasing five albums, two compilations and an EP from the band’s ‘80s and 90’s output, all of which are expanded multi-disc sets crammed with bonus material, extensive sleeve notes, art work and general Weddos emphemera. Most synonymous for their familiar depiction of relationships using acerbic wit, frontman David Gedge is a virtuoso when it comes to the bittersweet love song. Originally released in 1987, ‘George Best’ was the anticipated debut album by The Wedding Present, and saw the band do what they do best: create perfectly primitive, high-energy guitar-pop music about love and heartbreak. Lyrically some of Gedge’s most simple but much-loved songs; ‘George Best’ helped to create the Wedding Present’s definitive nuanced sound, and maintained their status as pillars of jangle pop.

The Wedding Present
Tommy 30

30 years on from its original release, the Wedding Present have re-recorded Tommy. At the time it was something of the less loved younger sibling to their their debut proper, being that it collected a selection of their early singles. The new recording shows how the band have grown and evolved, and deliberately conceives of them as belonging to one release.

The Wedding Present
Jump In, The Water’s Fine

The first new material since 2017 from Godlike indie legends, the Wedding Present, comes in the form of a two track single. The band commissioned Darren Hayman of Hefner to do the artwork for Jump In, The Water’s Fine. The two tracks see the band experimenting with a heavier bass sound and some a cappella vocals.

The Wedding Present
Going, Going…

Could you have ever imagined that in 2016 there'd be a new Wedding Present album? They have seemingly been content to rest on their nostalgia laurels over the past few years but they show that there is some fire still there with this 20 track album of linked songs which begins with four instrumentals.  "Some things just don't change" sings David Gedge on 'Bear' and he's still wittering on about break ups and relationships and stuff like that but there's nothing here that suggests that this won't appeal to long term fans.

The Wedding Present
Go Out And Get 'Em Boy!

Here we have a reissue of The debut single by The Wedding Present. Go Out And Get ‘Em Boy! Was the track that introduced the world to the Leeds band’s frenetic jangle. It released on white vinyl with a reproduction of the original artwork as part of the Optic Sevens reissue series. It features (The Moment Before) Everything’s Spoiled Again on the B-side. 7” on Optic Nerve includes poster and postcard.

The Wedding Present
The Complete Ukrainian John Peel Sessions

The excellent Hatch Records (Nine Black Alps, Napoleon IIIrd) are the ones behind this Wedding Present reissue. They’ve tacked all kinds of bonus goodies onto this new edition of the band’s famous Ukrainian-language John Peel outings. Not only are all three of the live sessions included here, but there is also an informative booklet and a DVD featuring interviews, concert videos and footage from a rare BBC2 show on The Wedding Present. New artwork, too - they weren’t lying when they put Complete in the title of The Complete Ukrainian John Peel Sessions.

The Wedding Present
Marc Riley Sessions Volume 3

The Wedding Present certainly get on with Marc Riley: he has brought them in for sessions on numerous occasions over the years, and this release collects tracks from some 2015 and 2016 sessions. Some Present classics, plus a fetching cover of the Nancy Sinatra Bond theme ‘You Only Live Twice’. Marc Riley Sessions Volume 3 is released by Hatch Records.

The Wedding Present
Huw Stephens Session

Twelve years ago Leeds (or Otley as I once heard Dave Gedge specify at gig once) favourites The Wedding Present recorded four covers for Huw Stephens’ One Music radio show. One of them is Take That’s Back For Good.  Here’s Huw Stephens Session for your delectation on 10” vinyl EP or CD.

Marc Riley Session

Following on from the vinyl issues of all of the Wedding Present Mark Riley sessions, Dave Gedge's 'other' band get their Riley session re-issued too. They only did one so it's on a 10" this time.  Expect more laid back sounds than the Weddo's bark and strum. Features the 'classic' 'Cat Girl Tights' (ahem)

The Wedding Present
The Home Internationals EP

The Home Internationals EP by Leeds legends The Wedding Present contains four instrumental pieces. The EP kicks off with Wales from the band’s most recent album Going, Going...Spurred on by this track, and using the name of the old international football competition between the four home nations, David Gedge utilised his love of pop, rock, film scores and football as inspiration to create a further three instrumentals.

The Wedding Present
Marc Riley Sessions Volume 2

The time is nigh. For those who bought 'Volume One' last year the wait is over. Here we can present ageing indie strummers Wedding Present delivering a second volume of their Marc Riley sessions. This contains songs from no fewer than 8 of their studio albums plus the usual murder of a classic  - this time it's the turn of the Monkees 'Pleasant Valley Sunday'.

The Wedding Present
George Best 30

An interesting exercise here from The Wedding Present: with a play-the-whole-album tour fresh in their recent past and a Steve Albini-manned studio to play with having wrapped on new album El Rey, the group decided to record a live-in-the-studio version of classic debut album George Best. And so they did! This new version is punchy and energetic, and arguably closer to the Present’s original vision… On Scopitones.

The Wedding Present
Bizarro

The ever-prolific pioneers of UK indie, The Wedding Present, are embarking on an extensive reissue campaign, releasing five albums, two compilations and an EP from the band’s ‘80s and 90’s output, all of which are expanded multi-disc sets crammed with bonus material, extensive sleeve notes, art work and general Weddos emphemera. Most synonymous for their familiar depiction of relationships using acerbic wit, frontman David Gedge is a virtuoso when it comes to the bittersweet love song. Originally released in 1989, ‘Bizarro’ is the second LP released by The Wedding Present, and the first to be released on a major label. Usually this would hint towards a band on the cusp of selling out, but instead, ‘Bizarro’ sees The Wedding Present hone their craft and toughen their formula as opposed to giving in to convention. The result was a career-defining record made up of fluctuating tempos and moods, establishing the band’s quintessential euphoric take on pop. This remastered and expanded edition includes bonus material featuring sessions, demo and live versions, alongside a DVD full of promotional material and live appearances; the infamous Top Of The Pops performance of ‘Brassneck’ in 1990 and a must-see interview with David Gedge about ‘Bizarro’ in 2014.

The Wedding Present
Marc Riley Sessions Volume 1

It's been quite the year for Wedding Present fans. First up a surprise new album which seemed to garner pretty decent reviews and now the icing on the cake - a collection of all the sessions they did on the Marc Riley show between 2008 and...um...now. It features songs from throughout their lengthy career including a version of the Cheers Theme Tune (an old sitcom to anyone under 30).

The Wedding Present
Meet Cute / Journey Into Space

Here is something left over from Record Store Day 2015 (remember that?) It's a 7" containing two songs from The Wedding Present's 'Valentino' album sung in Welsh. The Wedding Present have a habit of doing this. Does this make them more popular or less popular in other countries. They may well butcher their language. Who knows?

Originally released in 1988, 'Tommy' is a compilation that gathers the first four singles of The Wedding Present, a long with their B-sides and selected tracks from two early radio sessions, providing a comprehensive overview of the band's familiarly fast-paced, lo-fi output prior to their debut LP 'George Best' in 1987.

After continually nearing chart success until 1992, The Wedding Present finally became recognised after releasing limited edition 7” singles every month for a year. The tracks were then compiled as two LPs – Hit Parade 1 and Hit Parade 2. Both volumes are remastered and expanded here, with special bonus material including sessions and live versions of the band's most definitive songs. Also included is a DVD featuring TV appearances, music videos and a must-see interview with David Gedge about 'Hit Parade' in 2014.

Mini

The ever-prolific pioneers of UK indie, The Wedding Present, are embarking on an extensive reissue campaign, releasing five albums, two compilations and an EP from the band’s ‘80s and 90’s output, all of which are expanded multi-disc sets crammed with bonus material. Most synonymous for their familiar depiction of relationships using acerbic wit, frontman David Gedge is a virtuoso when it comes to the bittersweet love song. Originally released in 1996, the aptly named ‘Mini’ is a mini album by The Wedding Present. Here David Gedge’s propensity for lyrical wit is built around a concept of traditional rock ‘n’ roll archetypes of cars and girls - a welcomed contrast to the flashy drudgery of Brit Pop. This remastered and expanded edition includes bonus material featuring sessions and live versions of the songs, alongside a DVD with a feature interview from Keith Cameron interviewing David Gedge about ‘Mini’ in 2014.

Watusi

The ever-prolific pioneers of UK indie, The Wedding Present, are embarking on an extensive reissue campaign, releasing five albums, two compilations and an EP from the band’s ‘80s and 90’s output, all of which are expanded multi-disc sets crammed with bonus material, extensive sleeve notes, art work and general Weddos emphemera. Most synonymous for their familiar depiction of relationships using acerbic wit, frontman David Gedge is a virtuoso when it comes to the bittersweet love song. Originally released in 1994, ‘Watusi’ is the fourth LP by The Wedding Present and represented a shift into a more 60s influenced pop sound. Though ultimately often forgotten, its timeless aesthetic makes it often regarded as a lost classic. This remastered and expanded edition also includes bonus material featuring live versions and sessions alongside a DVD of classic TV appearances and an interview with David Gedge about 'Watusi' in 2014.

Seamonsters

The ever-prolific pioneers of UK indie, The Wedding Present, are embarking on an extensive reissue campaign, releasing five albums, two compilations and an EP from the band’s ‘80s and 90’s output, all of which are expanded multi-disc sets crammed with bonus material, extensive sleeve notes, art work and general Weddos emphemera. Most synonymous for their familiar depiction of relationships using acerbic wit, frontman David Gedge is a virtuoso when it comes to the bittersweet love song. Originally released in 1991, Seamonster is the third LP by the Wedding Present, and it saw them shift slightly from their signature, primitive sound and craft more outwardly intense psychodramas where the grievances of love and heart break still prevail. This expanded issue features bonus material including live versions of songs recorded at Wembly Arena and BBC Radio 5's 'Hit The North' session in 91. Also included is a DVD packed full of promotional videos, TV appearances, and a must-see interview with David Gedge about 'Seamonsters' in 2014.
