The Fires Of Ork is a collaboration between great ambient talent Biosphere and synth-explorer (and Klaus Schulze collaborator) Pete Namlook. Their two albums were released in 1993 and 2000, but you can get all of that material in one convenient package here on this two disc CD reissue. If you like either or both of these artists, you need this. On Biophon Records.
The Hilvarenbeek Recordings are sourced from an organic (or ‘Bio’ - nice) farm in Holland, and were recorded and assembled for a project at Incubate. The field recordings of nature and bucolic human activity have been subtly pressed into the service of some classic-sounding Biosphere tracks, mixing ambient warmth with an inquisitive love for sound. On Biophon Recordings.
Fans of isolationist ambient music have reason to rejoice as Substrata, widely regarded to be an ambient classic, is reissued on double 180gr vinyl and CD. Linking the slow moving, icy soundscapes of Thomas Köner with the distant rhythms of Selected Ambient Works Vol. 2, the album has become a significant source of inspiration for a new generation of ambient producers and those seeking musical experiences on the fringes of consciousness.
Think back to 1994, when the house-inflected ambience of Biosphere really started to percolate up into territory where people took notice. Patashnik feels like a warm trip through deep space / inner space, one that still feels worth taking today. Reissued on double vinyl and double CD: the CD edition also includes a bonus 12 track ‘sequel’! On Biophon Records.
Dig into this history of Biosphere with this collection of rare treats, collected from a compilation here, a compilation there, over the period 1991 to 2004. Fifteen tracks, which allow you to view the development of the Biosphere sound. Needless to say, this is top-quality ambient electronica throughout. CD release on Biophon Records.
From his hazy and ambient universe, Norwegian producer Geir Jenssen - aka Biosphere - has begun to raise eyebrows with his eery brand of twisted techno. Returning with The Petrified Forest, a mini album inspired by the 1930's movie of the same title, Jenssen boasts his creativity with a bewildering sense of unfathomable atmospheres.
A new Biosphere album is on the way! In advance of The Petrified Forest comes the single Black Mesa, which has a snap-stepping beat and spoken-word from Joan Lorring and an old film over ambient synths, giving the whole track the feel of a much less cheesy Public Service Broadcasting. Edition of 300 7” singles on Biophon Records.
Cirque is Biosphere’s turn-of-the-century album, initially released in the year 2000 on Touch. Being the fourth Biosphere record, Cirque presents the perfectly-distilled form of his gorgeous ambient music. This reissue, presented in either double CD or double LP formats, comes with a six-track bonus album as well as handsome new artwork! On Biophon Records.
New album from highly-respected ambient electronic maestro Biosphere, his first in 5 years. Departed Glories has the gorgeously cloudy haze of Biosphere’s best work, but imbued with distant fragments of old Eastern European / Russian folk music recordings, inspired by the cover image. The effect is similar to some of The Caretaker’s work, but with more of a shimmer. On Smalltown Supersound.
- Vinyl Double LP (STS281LP)
Not only does this release present the full debut release of the Biosphere project, but it also contains a whole CD / LP’s worth of previously unreleased material! Sweet. But the rest of Microgravity still warrants purchase, still standing as firm ambient house classic. All remastered, double CD or triple LP, on Biophon Records.
Biosphere & Deathprod
Biosphere, one of Touch’s big ambient players, shares an LP with Deathprod, currently of Supersilent and formerly of Motorpsycho. Interestingly for a split release, the artists alternate tracks, which juxtaposes their sounds together, each bringing out new angles from the other. Premium Norwegian electronic sound.
Shenzou is Biosphere’s 2002 record, upon which most of the tracks were built out of scratchy old vinyl samples of Debussy recordings, which lends the album a Gas-like classical flavour beneath all that nice shimmering looping ambience. This reissue of Shenzou also contains the album The Samphire Tower in full, as a bonus! Double CD and triple LP editions.
- Vinyl Triple LP (BIO27LP)
