The Telescopes
Strange Waves

At the same time as they prep a 30th anniversary re-issue of their debut Taste, the indefatigable psychedelic rock act The Telescopes look to the future, announcing a new 12” single ‘Strange Waves’ - backed with another newbie, ‘The Speaking Stones’ - on top of a new studio album for 2019, Exploding Head Syndrome.

The Telescopes
Taste (30 Anniversary Edition)

30th anniversary re-issue album on translucent purple vinyl of Taste, the quietly innovative 1989 debut album from British space rock act The Telescopes. Deserving to be mentioned in the same breath as Spacemen 3, JAMC and My Bloody Valentine, this edition comes with a booklet of exclusive contemporary photographs and new liner notes.

A Place To Bury Strangers / The Telescopes
Split Single No. 6

More Fuzz Club split single action, this time extolling the rather more industrial sounds to normal of A Place To Bury Strangers. Blazing, gritty stuff it is too. They are teamed up with The Telescopes, whose foreboding little cover of The Stooges pairs fabulously. 10 more inches of top action in this exciting series.

The Telescopes
Exploding Head Syndrome

Exploding Head Syndrome is the 10th album by psych/space rock band The Telescopes. The band formed in 1987 and there has been a revolving cast of players, with Stephen Lawrie being the only constant member in all that time. He really is Mr. Telescope. They take their influences from bands such as 13th Floor Elevators, The Velvet Underground and Suicide. LP and CD on Tapete.

The Telescopes
Early Studio Recordings

Telescopic noisegazers The Telescopes are best known these days for steadily releasing ear-splitting beauties ever since breaking a decade’s silence in 2002. So just in case you’d forgotten that they have numerous releases from before then, here’s Early Studio Recordings, where you’ll find some of their early studio recordings (namely the EPs Kick the Wall, 7th# Disaster, The Perfect Needle and To Kill a Slow Girl Walking).

The Telescopes
Stone Tape

6 more tracks of distorted noise and out there shoegaze from Stephen Lawrie's now pretty legendary thirty year old project. This time it's a bunch of racket and improvisation exploring 'Stone Tape Theory whereby inanimate objects can absorb energy from living beings. 'Scuse me while I go shout at my sausages.

The Telescopes
The Telescopes

A classic album from The Telescopes, dating from 1992, during psychedelic shoegaze’s imperial phase. This second LP (originally released by Creation) has ‘the hits’ of the band, or at least the most immediately ear-grabbing of their gorgeously hazy tunes. The Telescopes is pressed to vinyl (for the first time in a decade) courtesy of Radiation.

The Telescopes
As Light Return

For the Telescopes Stephen Lawrie the familiar nostalgia circuit. He could, if wanted, get out on the road and play the shoegaze classics from the first couple of albums but no, this singular artist continues to stretch out into unknown waters. This new album features oscillating noise, feedback and out there detachment straddling the line between noise based songcraft and freeform impressionism

The Telescopes
Splashdown: The Complete Recordings 1990-1992

Early business from The Telescopes. Splashdown compiles all four of their Creation EP’s, a never-before-released theoretical fifth EP, their whole second album, some cover versions from compilations, and a previously unreleased Peel Session! Good lord! This comprehensive package can be yours for a very reasonable price, on Cherry Red.

The Telescopes
Hidden Fields

The Telescopes have a rich history of walking the borderline of sheer noise and straight song-forms, never quite committing to either. Hidden Fields, their first record since 2013, finds them channelling wild drones into fairly songish songs, by their standards. A heady rush of devotional sonics, released by Tapete.

The Telescopes
As Approved By...

As Approved by… The Telescopes is a compilation of The Telescopes’s less in-print works, many of them from the beginnings of their time as a band. As part of Creation’s roster in the early 90s the band mined similar shoe-space-noiserock territory to Spacemen 3 and My Bloody Valentine, to as great an effect (if not as much acclaim). Really quite good.
