He bloody has, the bastard! The first LP from A Silver Mt. Zion was a way for Efrim Menuck and Thierry Amar to do something outside of Godspeed You! Black Emperor. It also allowed Menuck to mourn the passing of his cat. As such 2000's He Has Left Us Alone - full title: He Has Left Us Alone but Shafts of Light Sometimes Grace the Corner of Our Rooms… - is not exactly the cheeriest listen. A collection of baroque noise/post-rock replete with strings and drones, this mournfully beautiful set prefigures Forest Swords.
