The Chills
Soft Bomb

The Chills’ third album 'Soft Bomb' is a bit of a lost classic - not just in terms of lost classic albums in general, but even within the band’s own catalogue. It was the follow up to 1990's 'Submarine Bells', which did extremely well for The Chills in their native New Zealand, but the lack of financial backing meant this sank without a trace upon release in 1992. Fire Records are righting the wrongs and reissuing the album of peppy Kiwi-indie. Includes arrangements by Beach Boys collaborator Van Dyke Parks.

The Chills
Submarine Bells

'Submarine Bells' was the second studio LP by New Zealand indie band The Chills and was initially released in 1990. They are one of the bands associated with the famed Dunedin Sound scene. The band centres around the only constant member Martin Phillips, who, as a songwriter, manages to shape folk, punk, and psychedelia into three and four minute pop-songs. Flying Nun heads, check it.

The Chills
Pyramid / When The Poor Can Reach The Moon

The Chills comeback album 'Silver Bullets' really was a winner. A complex album which rewarded multiple listens and it's almost unprecedented for a band to be away for so long and come back with something that's almost the equal of earlier work. This Record Store Day release takes 'Silver Bullets' centre piece 'Pyramids'/ 'Where the Poor Can Reach the Moon' and pairs them with exclusive versions of ‘Night Of Chill Blue’ and ‘Walk On The Beach’ which were both recorded Karma Sound Studios in Bang Sarai Thailand in 2013. What were they doing in Thailand you might ask? With music this good, I really don't care.

The Chills
Snow Bound

I've just danced around the room and celebrated as if I'd won the World Cup as there's a new the Chills album due. The legendary New Zealand group returned in 2015 with the excellent Silver Bullets which was as good as anything they recorded in their heyday. Their precise yet emotional economic pop is certainly welcome round here.

The Chills / Martin Phillipps
The Curse Of The Chills / Martin Phillipps Live At The Moth Club

This is a must-buy for any self respecting fan of New Zealand legends the Chills, a major new documentary on the band and in particular their leader Martin Phillipps. The film contains never been seen footage as well as interviews with Phillipps and close family. The DVD is coupled with CD of Phillips live at the Moth Club in London on his 2015 comeback tour. There also appears to be a book but we're not sure what is in that.

The Chills
Silver Bullets

Silver Bullets is The Chills first new record since Sunburnt in 1996. Their distinctive, complicated and smart guitar pop mixes lyrics of desolation with memorable, bright melodies. The Chills, along with bands such as The Clean and The Verlaines were part of The Dunedin Sound - a style of indie-pop from New Zealand with a jangly guitar sound.

The Chills
The BBC Sessions

Over three years in the mid-eighties, Kiwi pop stars the Chills hopped overseas and recorded some music at the BBC in the process. Thankfully enough, that music was recorded for the Peel Sessions, and the twelve tunes that came out of the good times are now documented on this compilation.

The Chills
Kaleidoscope World

Kaleidoscope World gathers together the earliest days of New Zealand’s The Chills: every single release between the years 1982 and 1986. This must have sounded like the opening up of a new world back then: an indie sound as light and poppy as it was alternative and new. CD / double LP on (needless to say) the legendary Flying Nun label.
