Andrew Hargreaves
Concrete Handbag

Concrete handbag, man you got to do your best! And his best is what The Boats/The Misty’s/Tape Loop Orchestra fellow Andrew Hargreaves does on this new LP. Aided by the vocals of one Beth Roberts, Hargreaves constructs a set of fluid sound-experiments that range from dreamstate ambiences to degraded drones to detailed electroacoustic composition. Jenna Sutela, Holly Herndon and The Caretaker are all recalled by ‘Concrete Handbag’.

The Mistys
Pregnant Mannequin

Boomkat really know how to big up their own releases in a way we don't . Their description of this, the second album from the Mistys uses all the phrases we're growing to know and love of late...'tape worn' for example. Certainly saccharine shoegaze/dreampop album recorded to a salvaged D90 tape that's about to disintegrate will catch a few listeners. We'll bat back with gothic dream pop somewhere between Mum and Grouper's Helen project. Recorded onto tape on my dad's old music centre.

Tape Loop Orchestra
Return To The Light

Tape Loop Orchestra is the project of Andrew Hargreaves (The Boats, Cotton Goods). I'm too stupid to understand what the press release is blabbering on about so let me say that his music is a rather stately affair of voice-based drones. Long sweeping segments of beauty that sit somewhere between GAS and the Caretaker. Limited copies - already Sold out at source.

The Boats
Abstraction

The Boats’ Abstraction is pressed to translucent red vinyl, and interestingly packaged alongside some art cards in a transparent sleeve. The music however is far from see-through: instead, Abstraction is a thickly opaque wall of distortion and hammering beats. Limited to 300 copies on Other Ideas.

The Remote Viewer
Us. In Happier Times

Not quite a reunion but certainly an album of unheard material from bleak but heartwarming Lancashire electronic bods the Remote Viewer. The duo split out of Hood circa 1999 and made several records of rainy northern techno before splitting off into the Boats/the Humblebee and A New Line (Related). This collection is a series of found tracks made back in the day and perfectly reminds us of the time electronica could be small, tuneful and cute.

Tape Loop Orchestra
Solar Lunar

Tape Loop Orchestra here present the three records previously housed together in their Solar Light Emissions box set, now available separately for the first time. Solar Lunar is a key part of this deep trip into ethereal spacey ambience. Limited edition vinyl release of 100 copies, on Tape Loop Orchestra’s eponymous own label.

Tape Loop Orchestra
In Our Light

Tape Loop Orchestra are presenting not one but three new records to the public, forming a deep-reaching  trilogy of powerfully affective ambient drone. In Our Light features two side-long pieces of celestial scope. Limited edition vinyl release of 100 copies, on Tape Loop Orchestra’s own label.

Tape Loop Orchestra
Illuminating Emissions

Tape Loop Orchestra have got not one but three new records out: a trilogy of interlinked works that intends to obliquely represent the creation and development of life itself. Illuminating Emissions is of course a rich and gorgeous quantity of loop-based ambient drone. This is a limited vinyl release of 100 copies.

The Boats
Songs By The Sea

This vinyl reissue of The Boats’ 2004 debut album is an essential acquisition for listeners both old and new. Songs By The Sea is a quiet and intimate set of ambient-folk / post-rock songs produced with a gorgeous lo-fi touch. It feels like a special gift to listen to. This double LP reissue from The Boats Archive is limited to a tiny 150 copies, so don’t wait around!

The Boats
Static Clings

Static Clings is the last recorded legacy of The Boats. It contains rare material from compilations and tour-only CDs, as well as entirely unreleased work and a Pendle Coven ‘megamix’. Each shred of this group’s ambient-folk-electronica sound feels worth keeping hold of, so Static Clings is an enormous treat. produced as ever with a gorgeous lo-fi touch. This LP from The Boats Archive is limited to a tiny 150 copies, so don’t wait around!

Tape Loop Orchestra
The Invisibles

Can’t argue with a name like Tape Loop Orchestra. The project, helmed by Andrew Hargreaves, does indeed build their tracks out of hissing loops of tape material, and their compositions do have a grand scope to them. New album The Invisibles delivers a potent portion of decaying ambience, a work of murky beauty. The LP is pressed to clear vinyl in an edition of 300.
