This Mirror Mirror 7" has a great sleeve with its hieroglyphic symbol and lovely Bridgett Riley style black and white image. Musically its very grand sounding reminding me of The Chap and a bit like a folkie Stereolab in places which probably makes no sense at all but hey gimie a break, I'm not feeling so great.. The vocal harmonies make me think of a church choir... All very holy sounding in quite a refreshing way. 'New Horizons' is out on Half Machine Records. It's the new indie gospel...

TRACKLISTING: (A) NEW HORIZONS (B) LOCK UP YOUR SONS

OVERVIEW: ‘New Horizons’ / ‘Lock Up Your Sons’, Mirror Mirror’s debut UK release is taken from their debut album (out in the US on July 22nd) and is an introduction to their fully formed kaleidoscopic World filled with art, cults, and experimental ambience.

‘New Horizons’ sounds like Syd Barrett’s Pink Floyd recording with a choral section of a San Francisco cult – haunting choir-like vocals, cryptic ‘join us!’ lyrics and haunting backing music.  A perfect introduction to a their unique, baroque pop.

‘Lock Up Your Sons’ continues the psychedelic blueprint of the other a-side but opens up the World of Mirror Mirror some more, revealing their shimmering, percussive, experimental pop brilliance.  Featuring insistent drumming, stargazing guitars, and a marching bass line leading the listener to the sound of impending doom.  Or maybe even the revelation of truth…
