Rephlex have done the right thing and reissued 808 State's classic 'Quadrastate' album. It starts with 'Pacific State' which I must admit I never really liked. The anthem on here for me is 'Let Yourself Go (303 mix)'. Probably all the 808 State tracks I like most featured Gerald Simpson. Timeless acid house techno and early breakbeat action. I remember reading that he used to have bear wires on his kit plugged into the mains with matchsticks. I always take my hat off to a man that has blatant disregard for health and safety.... Just buy the bloody record cos it rules. Bonus tracks tooOOOooOOooOOOooo .

What their label says...

Just in time for the much heralded 2Oth Anniversary of Rave this summer, 808 State’s classic ‘Quadrastate’ album finally gets a re-release ater the other two albums in the Rephlex trilogy, ‘Newbuild’ and ‘Prebuild’.
Originally released on Creed Records, these recordings were born in Manchester in the months after the second Summer of Love, in 1988/9. These tracks were hugely influential to the popular electronic dance music explosion that soon followed all around the world. This is the album where we originally heard the international hit song, "Pacific".
The band’s rare debut single, "Let Yourself Go / Deepville is included on this album, together with the inclusion of some other previously-unreleased alternate versions and outtakes. It’s the first time ever that the tracks have been released on CD and the entire project has been lovingly remastered, to the customary Rephlex high standards.
Graham Massey, Andrew Barker & Darren Partington have been the line up of 808 State since mid 1991 (until their last album "Outpost Transmisions in 2002).
Formed in 1988, previous members (A Guy Called) Gerald Simpson and (Eastern Bloc Records Founder) Martin Price also feature on "Quadrastate".
As with many producer teams, the combination of influences and characteristics is what makes the sound unique. "Quadrastate" still has a fresh sound; incredibly bouncy basslines, pioneering use of breakbeats and all the energy and inspiration of analog-digital-hybrid jams.
