Was little concerned when I heard the last Fall lp. They've been doing "good one, weak one" for years now. 'Imperial Wax Solvent' is a goodie, his lyrics getting a bit more interesting & coherent again here (hehehe!) The music twangy, driving, repetitious, discordant, timeless. Just garage kraut boogie grind. I fucking love this band. They're a bit mental, like me. There's also a strong return to experimental peppering of tunes to keep them vibrant & current. One of the best ever Fall albums was 'The Light User Syndrome' a dark, warped stew indeed. This has strong shades of that tough nut psychosis, IE 'I've Been Duped' is like a weird new wave Stereolab punk rocker with the sultry missus on vox. A real cracking decade dissolver, it sounds brand new retro, like out of time, Monks style. He fucks with tape drop outs and odd sound levels on 'Strangetown' with it's early PIL riff giving way to hypnotic classic cowtown Fall guitars. He's a mad old badger is Smith but he fucking knows how to make a wickedly trashed record. You can tell he's been chilling on Mars with those two German androids too. If yr curious just buy it. If yr a fan bloody insist on it!
