What their label says...
Following the unanimously excellent praise foisted upon their self-titled debut album released late 2007, LA-based noiseniks HEALTH return with the release of a limited edition MLP through Tough Love Records. Book-ended by the original versions of album tracks “Triceratops” and “Lost Time”, the record also collects together a number of remixes that firmly establish the dancefloor potential of HEALTH. Sharing a lineage with the percussive impulses of Drums Not Dead-era Liars and the almost ambient freakouts of early Black Dice, HEALTH display a willingness to stretch out their sound and discover new sonic palettes rich in texture and rhythm. The remixes here play testament to this experimental tendency, serving to re-contextualise the band’s approach while bringing them to a new audience. Far from the po-faced elitism which befalls many similar acts, their self-acknowledged DISCO incarnation reveals the playful and universal appeal of the band, as at home on the dancefloor as they are atop critics’ end-of-year lists. With only 500 copies pressed and the band’s star firmly in the ascendancy, it’s sure to establish itself as a collector’s item. “Faster and smarter than scientists once imagined, [Triceratops] lurches off in new directions several times over the course of about three minutes” Pitchfork / “The players are human, even if the world they raised seems alien, and the rhythms they make are innate as pulses” Drowned In Sound, Top 50 album of 2007 / “The drums are insane. They are right there in your face going, “Hey, remember drums? You forgot that drums are magical, didn’t you? Ha!””VICE / tracklisting:1. triceratops 2. triceratops (acid girls rmx b) 3. lost time (c.l.a.w.s. rmx) 4. triceratops (acid girls rmx a) 5 lost time (pictureplane rmx) 6. triceratops (cfcf rmx) 7. lost time
