OOOOOh more contempor-indie. I recall Phil saying how fit Blood Red Shoes were. Now i've seen a piccie I want to take them home in my pocket. If they can fit in there with Mos Def & Angelina Jolie that is......All I can muster listening to their raucous debut 'Box of Secrets' is a reasonable cross betwixt The Subways & early Young Knives. There's a bit of a twangy rock edge to the guitar & the drums are all amped up to increase the velocity & gravity of the songs. When the girl sings it's like Lily Allen attempting mid period Sleater-Kinney. There's a kinda indie punk-blues anthemic thang hitting these lugs but the bombast & studio sheen takes a little of the raw, sultry energy of the early singles & blands it all down a little (for me) Totally in their favour is that A/ they can play really tightly B/they have good strong voices and lastly C/ the songs have great radio hooks (most of the singles are on here in some form or another) On the downside, the songs have little or no real substance. They're like energetic bolts of taut (festival) crowd pleasing indie rock but really, my opinion counts for naff all these days as you kids have your own feelings & agenda (and hair) CD/LP on V2
