School Of Seven Bells: Silent Grips (Suicide Squeeze) Is powered by a loose limbed jazzy beat and clear, glistening vocals almost reminiscent of Stereolab, sans the ubiquitous bahbahbahs. There's nothing more to it than the voice, percussion/beats, a quivering keyboard line with the slightest touch of FX here and there (provided by no other than Prefuse 73). The flip, a cover of Wire's 'Used To', continues the minimal approach with much the same musical outlook. Nothing is added that's not needed. This is almost perfect pop that makes this scribe want to put on repeat. On 7 inches of see-through green vinyl, complete with a coupon for MP3 download. Good stuff!
