Clinic i can review using my pre determined 'Clincasaurus' I have stored in my leaky brain. It is full of words like 'frugging', 'wurlitzer', 'twangy', 'hip shaking' & 'voodoo' - Voodoo especially. They just never change this band (thank gawd). The phrase "If it ain't broke then don't fix it' was invented for these spooky Garage dwelling Scousers and new single 'The Witch' is just classic Clinic through & through, utterly distinctive, following you up a creepy windy starecase, fully masked in dirty NHS smock with bloodstained maracas & chattering false teeth. This is their best single for a while and could quite easily fit on 'Internal Wrangler' with it's itchy death surf guitar ripped from the soul of Bo Diddley, chewing gum mouth lyrics, swirling circus organ & clattering drums. A brilliantly compulsive return to form. On Domino, 7" only

What their label says...

The Witch
Earl Mallard

A neatly twisted Bo Diddley / Dr John dancefloor groover about escaping a modern day witchhunt for a new future, ‘The Witch’ comes complete with two new tracks - ‘Earl Mallard’, a Residents meets Syd Barrett xylophone and fuzz swing number, and the acid blues of ‘Hijack’.
‘Do It!’ is Clinic’s summer album, a warped technicolor celebration. Pop music and severe cut-ups going from melody to acid psychosis to acoustic, usually in the same song. A skewed pop amalgam of Motown, Exuma, deep lounge and The Balloon Farm (amongst many), the album was recorded by Clinic and mixed by Jacquire King. Clinic have long inhabited their own universe, and the world of ‘Do It!’ feels expanded and exploded - equally exuberant, giddy and up.
