I initially balked when i heard the new Long Blondes single, 'Century'. It's an Erol Alkan production so he's definitely gone down the Blondie route with this one. I feel like I'm in an 80s disco grooving with those girls off the Mighty Boosh. I think the appeal is in it's effortless electro-disco pulse & sultry lyrics. It's definitely been inspired by Felix the Housecat & the Futurism mixes of a few years ago. There's some wonderful touches that make me wanna dig my Human League albums out but it's much more than a dreary update of the past. There's just tons of intriguing layers here, a real builder of a song! Starchasing dramatic vocals, swirling, icy keyboards & a timeless chugging beat. Oh, and Kate Jackson has such a classic voice, as horny as Alison Goldfrapp for sure ;0) So look out for this on yr radio or down at yr roller disco. It's no 'Giddy Stratospheres' but it will have you punching the air for sure! Ltd 7" only on Rough Trade

What their label says...

The Long Blondes still mix the extravagant and the everyday as only they can; the illicit thoughts that let a chink of excitement into the ennui of suburban life. But this is no longer a sepia-tinted picture postcard of a past era, instead it is the aural equivalent of people watching the moon landings on a newly-acquired colour tv or Futurists painting cityscapes of dizzying shapes and violent colours. It is the SHOCK of the NEW.

March 2008 sees the return of The Long Blondes with Erol Alkan produced dance floor stomp ‘Century’.
