Interested to hear how The Futureheads fare after the total failure of their awful sophomore album and consequential dumping by 679. 'The Beginning of the Twist' is , on first listen, a bit of a damp squib but is catchy enough. They sound even more indebted to the early 80s now. When perfectly good drum sounds were fiddled with in the studio by eager pony tails wanting to catch the zeitgeist. And therefore ruining perfectly good songs with some tinny synthetic echo. The whole thing sounds far too compressed, even the lyrics appear to be watered down, their Mackem spirit dulled a little by the pedestrian rock they're now producing. I'll give the new stuff a little credit however. It's a grand sight better than that bloody awful album they last threw at us. 'Get out Today', an extra track has a touch of sturm und drang about it in it's frenetic guitars & general rowdiness. Mingus however thinks it's all 'dull'. He is a genuine 'Futurehead' though! 2x7"/CDs on Null, their own label with a Field Music remix somewhere along the way! ,

the most invigorating guitar driven punk-pop this country has had to
