Youthmovies captured me at ATP last year with a set of free & breezy euphoric avant-pop & progressive punk-funk. I don't know who they reminded me of except maybe an embryonic New Order mixed with Out Hud or something like Radiohead being sick on A Certain Ratio? They sounded like they should be on Dischord recently anyhooo. The single they've got out on Drowned in Sound however loses a little in studio translation & sounds a little like spiralling, slightly confused Emo chart funk with spots of Bloc Party & Les Savy Fav. They moved me live but this single isn't quite as breathtaking as i'd like but i do dig the free trumpets backing up the windy guitar scrawl & shouty impassioned bit at the end. Trumpets rule. 'The Naughtiest Girl is a Monitor' is 7" only!
