Got the White Rabbits 'While We Go Dancing' 7" on Fierce Panda. The bassline throbs throughout and the chorus is very chirpy. Phil says this has some of the grandeur of Arcade Fire. Not a bad indie pop single like.. The sleeve has them carrying their gear over a stream and the smug side of me is hoping one of them fell in during the photo shoot. B-side 'Take A Walk Around The Table' has the rhythm section getting a nice little groove going and there's more piano. I seem to recall Brian though the album was good. Bizarrely their are a couple of moments that remind me of Queen.

What their label says...

** WHITE RABBITS are from Brooklyn, New York. They consist of Greg Roberts (guitar / vox), Steve Patterson (piano / vox), Alex Even (guitar / vox), Adam Russell (bass), Matt 'The Duck' Clark (drums) and Jamie Levinson (drums). Together they comprise a veritable 12-legged groove machine gunning its way through the history of pop and swapping instruments whenever the mood takes it. As suggested by the presence of two drummers and the gear-sharing behaviour the vibe is chaotic, convivial and, as also suggested by the fact that until recently the boys all shared a house, feverishly communal.

** 'While We Go Dancing' is the first single to be taken from the WHITE RABBITS' debut album, 'Fort Nightly', released on March 10th in the UK. Over in the USA the good surfers of www.thetripwire.com have already voted 'Fort Nightly' best longplayer of 2007, and fair play, too - consider that over on www.myspace.com/whiterabbits they say they are influenced by (and we quote) "William Tell's Second Arrow Cricket Club" and it becomes obvious that we aren't dealing with yet more drooling sub-post-Libertines-esque types here.

** Rather, WHITE RABBITS, alongside cheery contemporaries Vampire Weekend and Harlem Shakes, are representing a more intelligent new wave from New York. Typically then, much like the rest of the album, 'While We Go Dancing' is frequently mischievous, mysterious and marvellous in a groovy upbeat sort of way, like WHITE RABBITS are throwing a 'Happy Days'-style house party which isn't actually bobbins or hosted by a grown man in a creepy leather jacket pretend to be a 'teenager'.

** Attentive thrill seekers may recall that summer 2007 saw the release of 'The Plot' / 'Kid On My Shoulders' on lovely 7" vinyl on Young Turks, which gave WHITE RABBITS a fine excuse to take their live dramatics all the way from the inferno of White Heat to the hillocks of Glastonbury. The year ended with a sold-out show back home at New York's Bowery Ballroom and January kicks off 2008 in fine style as they hit the highways of America in support of The Walkmen. A return to Europe is being plotted for the spring and, frankly, many of us can't wait...
