Theoretical Girl: 'The Hypocrite' (Salvia) 7" If the vocals were more urgent and angry then this Disco/pop/rock hybrid would come close to aping Chicks On Speed's version of Delta Five's 'Mind Your Own Business'. Maybe it's in the beats. The flip gets on a bit of a lullabye tip with a toned down backing and quaint vocals. Second relaese on the label that brought us Laura Groves.

What their label says...

A nod to No-wave can still get you places...
Fresh off tour with a successful with Maximo Park, culminating at Carling Brixton Academy, Theoretical Girl releases the first in a series of 7"s on the Salvia label.

A haunting, dancefloor stormer with a 8-track powered engine and capable of ruffling up a few Southend-style bowler haircuts,   "The Hypocrite", is an unrelenting, tale of disenchantment.
A multi-instrumentalist songwriter, Theoretical Girl, paints her musical canvas with the most personal of touches, every layer of composition imbued with sentiment and import.

The B-side, Never Good Enough, reveals a glowing, technicolour, second skin.  Collaboration with producers Seiji (Roisin Murphy/Bugz in the Attic), Justin Lockey (Late of the Pier/YCNI:M) and engineer Al O*Connell  (The Rapture/Mystery Jets) has allowed Theoretical Girl to look beyond her bedroom studio and devise a loaded, high-tension sonic soundscape.
