Peggy Sue & The Pirates... new 7" called Television.... These remind
me of Nouvelle Vague crossed with Billie Holiday and maybe a bit of some of the
anti folk gear shoved in for good luck. Skiffle drums, double bass and some
incredible female vocals all meld together to make a cracking little 7".
Mingus reckons it' a bit like a more punky Hanne Hukkelberg.... I can hear bits
of Cocorosie in there 'n all. A great little 7"!

What their label says...
Peggy Sue and The Pirates is the lo-fi duo made up of friends Rosa and Katy from Brighton. Armed with beautiful harmonies, a selection of 'doo-be-doos' and an armful of bass lines, the girls began gigging in Brighton supporting the likes of The Gossip, Joan as Police Woman, The Maccabees, Jack Penate and becoming friends with the emerging Kate Nash. The two velvety-voiced ladies' fluffy vocal harmonies, accompanied only by an acoustic guitar and sounding something like the Moldy Peaches if they had grown up dancing to Sleater Kinney and learnt to sing listening to Billie Holiday - think CocoRosie, but with more punky guts. 'Television' is an extremely catchy, yet aggressive little ditty, proclaiming sweetly that "television is a beautiful distraction".
