Vampire Weekend release their debut 7" called 'Mansard Roof'. This is a quirky little 7" that I couldn't possibly start to describe. It's one of the oddest records I've heard in ages which can only stand in its favour. It's great actually! I'm not gonna say anything else about it for 2 reasons. 1) I don't want to spoil the surprise..... 2) The words I'm thinking of aren't doing this any justice.. just trust me!
Love this record? Hate it? Tell us.
What their label says...
Featuring Ezra Koenig (vocals / guitar), Rostam Batmanglij (keyboards / vocals), Chris Baio (bass) and Christopher Tomson (drums), Vampire Weekend formed and cut their musical teeth at NYC’s Columbia’s University, taking their name from a film that frontman Ezra Koenig wrote and trailered. The band have been setting Gotham alight with a series of celebratory live performances over the summer, sharing bills with the likes of Clipse, Animal Collective, Dirty Projectors and Ra Ra Riot as well as selling out headline shows at the legendary Bowery Ballroom and the Music Hall of Williamsburg. Taken from Vampire Weekend’s forthcoming self-produced debut album (due for release on XL Recordings at the start of 2008), ‘Mansard Roof’ is the first example of this preppy young band’s beguiling mix of smart, direct, danceable tunes and afrobeat-tinged, experimental pop – music from New York’s hottest new band that challenges any preconceptions of what a New York band is meant to sound like. ‘Mansard Roof’ comes backed with ‘Ladies Of Cambridge’ on the B side.
