Lightspeed Champion: 'Midnight Surprise' (Domino) A lilac coloured 10" from the former Test Icicles man takes in some country tinged whiny boy indie fair. The man is obviously very talented, if I had the time to actually take in what he's singing about with his aching vocal acrobatics I'd probably be able to deduce what's fronting the largely strummed guitar, strings and occasional electric fuzzed interjections. It's quite an epic affair really, maybe a little too long for daytime radio play.

What their label says...

‘Midnight Surprise’ is the beautifully epic second single from Lightspeed Champion, a truly unique 10 minute track from the forthcoming debut album. Available on limited lavender coloured vinyl.
With humorous references to his own stage name, the popular video game The Legend Of Zelda and to sexual frustration, ‘Midnight Surprise’ is a dreamlike hook-laden tale in 3 parts. Backing vocals are courtesy of Emmy The Great and group vocals from members of Tilly & The Wall, Son Ambulance and other musicians from Omaha, Nebraska where the album was recorded with producer Mike Mogis.
Features 2 B-sides, ‘No Surprise’ (original demo) and ‘Flesh Failures (Let The Sunshine In)’, which is a beautiful rendition of the widely known track from the musical Hair.
