The Oscillation: 'Head Hang Low' (DC) The 85th release on J Saul Kane's longstanding label project. This is a debut single from the soon come debut LP, sounding not a million miles from Julian Cope's Teardrop Explodes. I've just read the sleeve notes and it is indeed a cover of a Julian Cope ballad (yes i'm just a fountain of trivial pop knowledge!).It has a stripped down vocal with keyboard and motorik percussive backing. The office boys think of Air, which is what the vocals and keys bring to mind. I was about to play the flip, which would have made an interesting review. Alas, it's a beautifully etched 'stars in the nighttime' spiders web-like design that even covers the label.

Love this record? Hate it? Tell us.

OVERVIEW: The Oscillation is the brainchild of Demian Castellanos, who has released two critically acclaimed 12" only singles as The Orichalc Phase for DC Recordings in 2006. "Head Hang Low" is The Oscillation's debut single, a blissed out reworking of Julian Cope's classic ballad from 1984, newly rendered by Castellanos into a bitter sweet dose of pop melancholia. The 7" version will come on a limited edition etched vinyl with artwork by celebrated design studio La Boca. A video by Metropolis studios will accompany the single release and will also be available to view from September 17th on the bands video channel http://theoscillation.buzznet.com. Castellanos has previously worked with such luminaries as producer Tim Holmes from Death In Vegas, and has a forthcoming project with members of Chrome Hoof. Released a week prior to The Oscillation’s debut album "Out Of Phase" (DCR70LP/CD)
