Wally Shoup, Chris Corsano, Paul Flaherty: 'Bounced Check' (Records) Play alto sax, drums and tenor & alto sax respectively on the first of two live recordings made a couple of years ago in Seattle. The office talk is dismissive waffle about how grating the saxophone can be. Free music lovers and musicians who know about 'edges' may beg to differ in opinion. Roaring, raging, flaming music.. the other lp is titled: 'Blank Check', go figure

"Everything dies, baby, that's a fact / but maybe everything that dies someday comes back."(Bruce Springsteen : Atlantic City)

Jazz died, of course. Many moons ago. The corpse has been on display ever since. Amazing work, I must admit, keeping up those appearances. Some people like to hold on to things like their life depended upon them. A vision turns into an illusion, inspiration into a well-honed mechanisms.

But there are days when it does come back, back from the dead. By the way of looking back and to the future simultaneously. It's not a game, it's not a race, a show of hands or skills. What it thrives on is ENERGY, the power to watch your back and still stay on the road. Back in the day, the energy was bottled and since then it's been a limited supply. Some are priviledged, some people have an access to the powerplant, cables to the source.

"When they said ”sit down” I stood up."

This is one of those days.
