Phil here and I'm rather excited and happy today. why?? I don't know.....just thought you'd like to know about my well being and on some days I really honestly muster a smile. Though listening to the new iLIKETRAINS album on Beggars Banquet you'd wonder how long it could last for. I've never heard a more mardy and miserable sounding band in my life. They make Street Spirit era Radiohead sound like Dancing Queen era Abba. It's crazy. But I like a bit of mardyness so it's alright by me. 'Elegies To lessons Learnt' is a lesson in misery punctuated with some post rock style instrumentation. It's an extremely fine record and if you're OK with downtempo dark and brooding music which sounds like it should be used for the 'grab the tissue' bits in films (no, not those films) you'll find this pretty essential! I can't wait to take it home and watch the smile on peoples faces drop. Speaking of which... where's my smiles gone? You need this misery fest asap!.

What their label says...

iLiKETRAiNS grace us with their magnificent new album, ‘Elegies To Lessons Learnt’.   Morose indeed, and conveyed with such supreme, spine-tingling, rousing melody and compelling instrumentation that this album will win hearts and minds all over the world.  Recorded in an old chapel in Leeds, the album was mixed with the help of Ken Thomas (Sigur Ros, Hope Of The States), and self-produced. ·iLiKETRAiNS released their first two singles at the end of 2005 to credible acclaim. However, it was their stunning mini-album ‘Progress Reform’ (Fierce Panda) that truly captured the media's attention and propelled them into  cult status.
