What their label says...

Three new tracks from the mighty VP, flexing their highly-developed dancefloor muscles for all they are worth. Two of these tunes are also newly available as downloads, while the third is exclusive to this 12”. ‘Chief’ builds slowly, adding within each section another layer to the mounting sounds. A soft harp brings this soothing track to fruition, and joined by insistent brass sounds, a beat begins to take shape. Moving forward and gaining pace, its fluctuations of pitch and unpredictable movements make it feel like a jazz piece for the world of dubstep. And then, just as it seems settled on a structure, it is complete. ‘Suy J Mix’ hits like an assault on the senses. Sharp exhalations of breath and metallic clangs blend seamlessly with a drum and bass beat which kickstart the track into life. However, as with all Various tracks, nothing is predictable. Without warning the beat drops and the pace changes. Electronic spaceage beeps and industrial meltdowns add to the cacophony of sounds, and suddenly we’re in a house groove, but with a nagging sense of disorientation. ‘Bun’ feels like a child of the 80s, with a sense of a rebellious church organist let loose on a Yahama keyboard. But within the subtle structure of the echoing sounds, there is something darker going on. The deep beat jolts slightly with the electronic beeps, and the shifting tones create tensions within the seemingly constant sounds. Beneath its reassuring consistency, this track asks many questions…
