I'm not overly familiar with Palm Springs but here goes...It's the sound of someone's heart breaking committed to vinyl. Complete with elaborate orchestration there wont be a dry eye in the house as the singer utters 'Build it all up and tear it all down' He comes over all sentimental like. It's one of those records that those who connect with it will cherish. Timeless pop says Phil...

What their label says...

“I Start Fires” is the fourth single from Brighton/London based Palm Springs, and comes in the wake of their critically acclaimed debut album “No Hurt Like A Broken Heart” released earlier this year. The new single contrasts the epic orchestration and wall of sound choral panorama of “I Start Fires” , with the stripped down, late afternoon sun kissed melancholy of “Twilight Of A Star” and is accompanied by a video by Long Blondes video director Rupert Noble. “I Start Fires” is the sound of a band flexing their musical muscles and is the most ambitious and self-confident release to date of this truly individual and independent of bands. ‘Elaborated down to the last detail of the arrangement, to the superb dramaturgy of the songs circuitry, to the diaphanous capillary of the instrumentation. Chamber pop, mellow and bittersweet, each song a gem’ - Rolling Stone Magazine, ‘Palm Springs foundations are fantastically inventive and diverse uses of instrumentation, alongside beautifully observed and articulated lyrics’ Is This Music Magazine, ‘Simply wonderful stuff, and highly tipped’ Rough Trade Records
