The Shins album is pretty good. Not brilliant but ok. Neither good nor bad. Here's is their new single 'Turn on Me'. They certainly need to get less polished next time or there'll be in trouble. Pleasant pop rock that wanders around without really doing any harm to anybody. B side of the single has a Peter, Bob and John remix on it. File under pleasant. Guaranteed not to hurt children or animals.

OVERVIEW: What a year 2007 has been for The Shins. Not only did their album Wincing The Night Away take the mainstream by surprise, hitting #2 in the US charts, and becoming their fastest selling album to date in the UK, (with sales of over 200,000 worldwide). Q Magazine name checked them in their top ten most exciting bands around at the moment. The summer sees the band releasing their third single, the melodically jubilant 'Turn On Me'. Straight from the therapist's couch, this is a tale of a startlingly unhealthy co-dependent relationship. 'Turn On Me' harks back to their sound on Chutes Too Narrow, an exhilarating, rock-solid pop song we've come to covet from The Shins. 'Turn On Me' will be released on special 7" vinyl with previously unreleased tracks, including the 'Weeds' theme tune, the popular US TV show where a suburban mum takes up selling pot to support her single mother lifestyle. The producers of the show asked various bands to record the title track, 'Little Boxes' and The Shins have recorded it for the latest series. There is also an exclusive version of Pink Floyd's 'Breathe', Remixed by Peter Bjorn & John. The Shins have sold over one million records worldwide; worshipped by almost anyone who comes into contact with their enriching, deeply emotive and complex, beautiful pop songs. The band play only one UK festival this summer, the Reading & Leeds Carling weekend on August 25/26th. This will be the band's first time ever on a main stage at Reading and Leeds, a fitting tribute to their rise in popularity over the last 12 months. The Shins will also be performing a very low-key warm up gig in Edinburgh & shall return to the UK in the Autumn.
