Love this record? Hate it? Tell us.What their label says...up next on the GPS (following recent 45s with voice of the seven woods, hush arbors, wooden wand etc) comes this 4 track debut 45 from rosewood green. formed by vocalist eugenie rose and featuring the slide guitar genius of previous GPS artiste pete greenwood, and hailing from Bristol and Leeds respectively, Eugenie and Pete’s tastes differ outside of folk music. Eugenie’s love for Bob Marley, Sandy Denny, Vashti Bunyan and the avant-garde and Pete’s fascination with altered tunings, Blues, Jazz and Country, combine in strange and exciting new ways. With the inclusion of Oscar Cainer on backing vocals and guitar, Beni Pri on cello (whenever theyre both available), plus a whole host of guest musicians, their sound has taken on a new form. Ostensibly a folk record, the EP is a step away from the traditional in its use of slide guitar, lap steel, erratic time signatures and downright quirkiness, whilst vaguely trying to avoid the all-encompassing "nu-folk" banner. available on 7" vinyl only in cool art nouveau tile sleeve, tracing paper inserts and held together by a GPS ribbon (!) another urgent GPS release |
