Again on Youngs Turks we have a limited debut by the The Barker Band with a banjotastic knees up bance dance of a song entitled 'Heart like Mine'. Very much in the country school of popular music with a positive bevvy of choral support bigging up the chorus and geeing up the straw lined barn dance. It's quite a traditional nice tune. Great front cover with a man using his banjo to fight a snake. B-sides a slowy with female vocals complete the country ticklist. Excellent! yeeehaaaa

What their label says...

The Barker Band was formed after twin brothers Jake and Sam Barker began playing bluegrass with their dad, Lenny, and their oldest friend, Laurie Sherman. The four of them then played a few acoustic sessions in small clubs and pubs in London to very enthusiastic audiences and realised pretty quickly that there seemed to be a thirst for this kind of music. They were soon joined by old skateboard friend Tom Wright on bass, Hanna Loftus on
fiddle, Rupert Shreeve on drums and Nella Johnson on vocals.
It wasn't long before they started writing and recording their own songs, around 6,000 miles east of Nashville - in their Acton studio, drawing on influences from bluegrass, rock, country and blues. The result is a unique blend of traditional and modern styles with an emphasis on vocal harmony.
"Strange, hooky, moody and melodical songs... vocals with an edge of bloodied gravel to them...a unique CD." David Quantick, The Word Magazine March 2006.
"The songs are easy and comfortable (like old friends who always cook a
great dinner) ... Delectable." Holly Barringer, Play Music Magazine.
"The Barker Band are that rare act in traditional music that have managed to
update the music without losing any of the original feeling" Craig Bonnell, Songs Illinois.
