Here's a split 7" by Luke Abbott and Projections on Trash Aesthetics. A lil label from a while back who you may remember released the 1st Bloc Party 7". Luke Abbott does a nice line in bedroom electronica almost like Squarepusher (lite) / Cylob played by Hambel and Jemima from Play School. The Projections on the other side is a more indie affair with it rocking along in an almost Drive Like Jehu kind of way. It's got a really full sound and the guitars sound pretty cool I have to say. A pretty decent split I have to say.

What their label says...

Trash Aesthetics is proud to announce the next record in its 7” series that has previously included debut releases for the like of Bloc Party, The Rakes and Tilly and the Wall. This double A-side is further proof that regardless of genre Trash Aesthetics is the label to watch when it comes to discovering great new music.

Projections are Brighton's premier exponents of visceral, guitar euphoria and boast amongst their ranks members of hardcore legends Cat on Form (Southern Records) and Steve Lamacq favourites Blood Red Shoes.

‘Muted’ shows them stripping back their sound even further than on previous recordings, showcasing a stunning burst of abrasive punk rock reminiscent of Nirvana, if fronted by a PiL era John Lydon.

The song’s about lack of communication, the inability to express things, and whether this is because of the inadequacy of language or whether being male just makes you bad at it.  It culminates in resignation and apathy about whether to bother trying to express things at all any more. "it's lost...oh well".

Flip the record over and you have altogether different proposition. Luke Abbott is currently recording for electro label Output Recordings (Four Tet, The Rapture, LCD Soundsystem), but has graced us with previously unreleased track ‘Repus Tekram’ for this split.  Luke will rewire your brain with his neurotic, circuit bending zeal and beautifully soulful sense of melody and rhythm. Luke described the motivation behind the track to us:

"Life, generally speaking, is a total let down…  I got kicked out of Tesco’s the other week for not having any ID and trying to buy some white wine to go with the fish I was buying. I’m 24 for fucks sake.  I don’t need that shit. So I’ve stopped shopping at Tesco’s and started buying most of my food from the market, which is much cheaper and the food is a lot better. Supermarkets freak me out anyway, I had a panic attack in Sainsbury’s once, near the eggs, I had to leave my shopping and go and sit outside."

With stunning, minimalist artwork by Taz from Projections and limited to just 300 copies of heavyweight vinyl, this single is absolutely essential.
