Now The Japanese cut up master Cornelius on 7" with Gum/Cue on Warners. Using his vocals as a crazy disjointed instrument on top of angry driving rock music he creates a sound explosion like no other. Its unique form is made weirder by his decision to mask the lyrics which are Japanese to start with so in their final state it sounds like sound, popping and swooping around the octave. It's the combination of the sounds that makes it such and interesting and vibrant tune to listen to. Its as exciting as finding a tenor in an old pair of trousers... maybe even a £20!!!! ...Battles, Steve Reich.... B-side is a slower piece sounding a bit like Notwist. with gentle vocals and lilting reverbed guitar lines. The bass and drums flip out with unusual patterns ruffling the calm just enough to make it not bland. Free digital download with the 7"

What their label says...

TRACKLISTING: A) Gum, B) Cue,

OVERVIEW: Limited edition 7” release from Cornelius. The renowned Cornelius is back in the UK with his brand new single 'Gum' taken from his album 'Sensuous'. The album is his first since 2001’s well-respected 'Point'. 'Sensuous' represents an intriguing development since 'Point' with the emphasis placed on meandering atmospherics, creative soundscaping and ambient flourishes. Collaborations with Kings of Convenience on Omstart and Music provide two instant highlights whilst a cover of Dean Martin’s Sleep Warm concludes the album in soothing style. Cornelius first came to prominence as part of the Tokyo-based duo Flipper’s Guitar who combined eighties British pop with a love for Beck, The Beatles and The Beach Boys.
